Cole Hamels FIP last 5 years (since he turned 30)...
2014: 3.07 2015: 3.47 2016: 3.98 2017: 4.62 2018: 5.37
After seeing this I have become extremely skeptical in going after Hamels...especially given the prospect haul it would probably take and even more so especially if he requires next year's option to be picked up to waive his NTC.

Oh Really??????????.............Cole Hamels............the Yankees are on the cusp of another title and we settle for Hamels?.......when the deadline looms and teams get ready to deal, I hope we get someone better......Cashman and his staff need to make some decisions that involve part of the talent pool.....transitioning Adam Warren into a starter would probably yield as good results.......there has to be a better solution......

I see Hal S. is talking about getting more pitching.....I expect something to happen, maybe that righty from Detroit who is having a poor year compared to last...I think his name is Fullmer....Detroit needs to invest in a rebuild, and from what I saw last year, he is young and talented...

I see Hal S. is talking about getting more pitching.....I expect something to happen, maybe that righty from Detroit who is having a poor year compared to last...I think his name is Fullmer....Detroit needs to invest in a rebuild, and from what I saw last year, he is young and talented... He is young (25) and talented, but unfortunately he isn't having a good year. He's been sort of "Sonny Grayish" this year. He's on one game, he's off another. His first two starts he was excellent, allowing one run total in 13 innings. Then he had a real stinker in start #3, nine runs (six earned) and eight hits in three innings...Starts #4, 5 and 6 he was strong again, four runs total in 19 innings...starts #7 and #8 were clunkers, with a total of 11 ER in 10 innings...Then #9 was okay, 3 ER in six innings...then #10 was decent with one run and four hits allowed, though it took him an uncharacteristic 112 pitches to labor through 5.1 innings...then #11 and #12 were more on the clunker side, with 9 runs allowed in 9.1 total innings...and then he was good his last time out, allowing one run on five hits without a BB in 7 innings. So the knock on him this year has been that he hasn't had the command he has had in the past, and indeed he has walked 3.3 per 9 innings...which isn't terrible, unless you happen to be a control artist that had walked 2.3 per nine innings in his first two seasons, he's been dealing with about an extra base runner per game. Also taking into consideration that he's a soft-contact guy that has allowed a career high .293 BABIP this year (still below league average), and it all makes sense. He needs a little tweak, just about like Sonny Gray needed a tweak, and is still working on getting to where he should be... Fullmer circa 2016 allowed a slash of .231/.291/.361 with a .270 BABIP Fullmer circa 2017 allowed a slash of .243/.294/.350 with a .275 BABIP Fullmer circa 2018 allowed a slash of .250/.326/.402 with a .293 BABIP He has also allowed an uncharacteristic 9 HR in 73.2 innings this season. Looking at his game logs will reveal that he was tagged for 2 HR in a game three times this season. Those games, not surprisingly account for his worst three starts of the season, totaling 11 innings and 17 of his 36 total earned (and all three of his unearned) runs for the season. I know you can't take those three starts out of the equation, but if you do, he's been pretty darned good in his other 10 starts (19 ER in 62.2 innings = 2.75 ERA). I think he's healthy, and might be a bargain. With all the negativity about him, he still has a +99 ERA on the season...At age 25, he would be a nice addition to the Yankees rotation for now and the future...

Since we mentioned Snell in the game thread, here are my two cents regarding him. His price would likely be higher than that of Fullmer because of his performance this season and the presence of the Rays in the AL East. He is a young guy who is putting up break-out numbers, so it's always a bit risky to assume he will continue to do so. He has struck out 9.7 per nine with a 2.30 ERA. Those are Severino numbers, and nothing to sneeze at. In an oddity, he struck out 12 in 6 innings his start of 06/03 vs. Seattle. He faced them on 06/09 and fanned only 1 in 6 innings. I don't know what that really means other than he pitched well in both games, so perhaps he can be complimented for holding it together when he was without his best stuff...
Over all, sure...I'd love to have him. I'm sure that an astute trader like Cashman is going to pay close attention to the difference in price between Snell and Fullmer. He'll also note that Fullmer is the more "finished" and "accomplished" of the two...Two very different pitchers, and I feel two very different trades, even though they are both 25 years old...

Rizzuto pulls a Noetsi and posts on the wrong thread. No worries, Rizz, we've all done it before!

Michael Fullmer adds more fuel to the fire as a trade candidate. Yesterday he went seven innings, one run, five hits, 4 K's and only 1 BB...Get him, Cash. I'd slot him in at #2 behind Severino...Tanaka is now a #4 or maybe 5 until he can show some consistency...
Severino Fullmer Sabathia Tanaka Gray
German * ouch * I hate taking him out of the rotation now...Maybe Gray and German switch places? Maybe it's time for Tanaka to be re-examined? Include Gray in the Fullmer Trade? Trade Gray for something else? UH-oh...probably include German in the Fullmer trade. Well, you have to give to get, right? Now, it gets more complicated...

Rather have a German than a Fullmer... BTW, I did see the game results for Fullmer today and thought "maybe he's turning his year around" but didn't really look into past starts aside from yesterdays.. I really don't want to give up on German
