I shall not grieve the leave of Shreve............the guy is not good enough to stay in this bullpen.... I was quick to defend Shreve a couple of days ago. Now, it appears he needs an adjustment...not sure what’s happened, but he has options remaining. Perhaps a demotion now will allow him to be useful later this season...Perhaps a trade will find him the change of scenery he needs. Maybe he was pitching to the scoreboard and figured the team would score 7 tonight..

I still think that the primary target at the deadline should be a lefty who can neutralize lefty bats, but is not strictly a LOOGY. I think the price on a guy like Brad Hand will be too high, and the O's will NOT deal Britton to the Yanks. The guy I would target would be Will Smith in SF. He is playoff experienced (Brewers in 2016) and has a long track record of success (though he had TJ and spent 2017 recovering. He is dominating again in 2018. Smith probably would have a high, but not huge price tag in SF- as he is only under team control this year and 2019- and then hits FA. Would be a significant upgrade on Shreve. My guess- one good and two decent prospects would get it done. Maybe an offer like Adams, Estrada and a lower level SP could get it done? Not sure why this is necessary. The Yankees have a bullpen full of guys who can neutralize batters from both sides of the plate. Smith has been great thus far this year, though he has actually been better against RHB than LHB but that sample is so small and in the NL, over his career he has been basically no different in terms of slash line vs. LHB as the likes of what the Yankees have in their bullpen right now (Shreve aside). I think this traditional necessity for a lefty specialist is more critical when you only have a couple of elite relievers and the remainder of your usual run of the mill or even shitty relievers making up the rest of the bullepn...but the Yankees are not constructed that way, their 'pen goes at least 6 deep (Chapman, Betances, Green, Robertson, Holder, and even Warren/Kahnle when healthy). If the Yankees are going to upgrade the bullpen instead of the rotation then it needs to be for the elite of the elite type guy bc the goal needs to be to significantly shorten games with regularity in the case of the rotation faltering as the year progresses, not just with LHB neutralization in mind which is not a meaningful need.

WE have lost Montgomery, now MAYBE Tanka …(I Truly Hope & Pray Not).
I recently read an article, where it was rumored, that the Yankees & Mets are talking about a TORRES for one of their Elite Pitchers deal… Cashman later denied this.
Instead of talking about trading our Prospects for pitchers like Hamel, (having a bad year; almost 2 HR’S per game and who will never be the same, etc.)…
German continues to be REAL impressive and if necessary we could always move Warren to SP (a job he once did)
Loaisiga continues to impress and if this continues we will have:
SEV CC Gray (hope that he is coming round???) German Loaisiga/Warren
Let us not be like the Prior Yankees, where we ALWAYS had to trade for some aging player and NOT call up our Prospects.
Let us, follow the Braves lead (which we have somewhat); they now have 5 Players under 25 on their Roster and they are calling up two more Prospects under the age of 25 years old; for a total of 7 players under 25-years old.
If needed, we could call up one/two of our following Young Pitching Prospects for as SP’S (not in priority order):
Sheffield Torres Abreu Medina Acevedo Swhanson (spelling???)
Now I know once you read the above; some of you will go bunkers & begin stating things like:
“They are too Young”
“They are not Ready”
“They need more time in the Minors”
Etc. Etc. Etc.
Well, what Torres & Andujar have proven = “Now is their time’ (see Braves line-up, etc.).
Go back & read your Posts from last year and see some of your sad but funny comments about calling up Torres or Andujar…
Just think for a second…if last season we had called up either Torres & Andujar to play 3B… would we have gone to the W/S?
We will never know.
However we DO KNOW with Headley, we didn’t go and that Headley is now with???
Well, he was CUT (no surprise there) and is now in NOWHERE LAND (not a fun place to be).
OR, what will We do if we lose more Pitchers to injuries?
Trade MORE of our Elite Prospects for immediate satisfaction (short-term thinking = STUPIDITY)?
Did you all know that out of our Top 30 Prospects, 25 are Pitchers???!!!
If we need more Relief Pitchers (if Warren moves over to SP) we have slew of Bullpen Prospects ready to Prove Themselves.
NO TRADES; Call up more Prospects if needed…

Chase Headley hit .389 in the ALCS against Houston. He was almost a big part of why we went to the WS. But sure.
Todd Frazier had an OPS over .900 in September down the stretch as the Yankees battled for the playoffs (plus played great defense). But sure.
Andujar had major defensive question marks that he still needed to work through. He and the Yankees are now reaping the benefits of that patience. But sure.
Torres had TJS in June 2017 and was out for the season. But sure.

I think they are both here to stay, they have given a ton of juice to this lineup.

I say Andujar/Frazier/Sheffield/Loaisiga/Wade I don't know what the contract status of de Grom is.....if it's not just a season rental, I would think the Yanks traded fairly by giving up Frazier, Sheffield, Loaisiga and Wade.......Andujar is a no-trade lister for me....

Hate the idea of giving up Frazier and Andu but in the words of Jim Bowden, “ it’s gonna hurt” Drury is a good ball player
