I really liked what I have seen of Florial. In many ways, he reminds me of a young Bernie Williams (with a better arm and better instincts on the base paths). Remember, Florial is only 21 years old. I can see this kid jumping through AA to AAA next year. Without the injury, he may have done so this season. Florial will be a special player, sans injuries. That was either a young stud player in the making or the most precocious spring training in history...

All I can do is read his stats and scouting reports and watch his limited at bats in spring training. Prospect judging is so difficult. He may remind you of Bernie, rizzuto, but can he jam like Bernie can?

Doubtful, but not everyone can be Phil Linz.

If Frazier could play all three positions...but, alas, he cannot man centerfield...ever. As long as Stanton is on the team, Frazier is going to be the odd man out. Sanchez has to DH for 40 - 50 games. Voit will need to DH. And, Gardner is nearing retirement. Someone needs to be able to play centerfield...and not simply when Hicks is injured (again)...with these planned days of rest, as is so important these days supposedly.
The real question is which poor fielder do you want to DH...Frazier or Andujar? Stanton is actually a pretty good fielder.

Believe it or not Frazier started in more games at CF (192) in the minors than at RF(75) or LF(98). Now, I don't think he played CF particularly well but I think he could be passable there in an emergency if he gets over his yips.

The thoughts of Frazier or Andujar covering LF after the past few years with Gardner out there is a frightening prospect to me. I really never cared for Frazier's work in LF either to be honest, I do agree he may be a bit smoother there than in right field, but that’s faint praise. We can’t be greedy and keep everyone, playing them out of position could be costly. In an ideal world, maybe Andujar would take to the OF like a duck to water, but it’s a reach at this point. We have the DH in the AL. There’s room for one of those guys... except that we don’t know how much DH time we’ll need for Stanton. I want us to catch and throw the ball as well as any team in the game... Watching Urshela at 3B and DJ at 2B has given me a new appreciation for great infield defense, of course, it helps that they both have hit well too. Throw in DiDi's return at SS and that gives them three very good defenders in the infield. I big fan of all this defense and I'm sure the pitchers are too.

In my ideal world I have superior fielders all over the diamond, and all them have plus offensive talent. The talents may not all be the same. In fact, in this ideal world, there are a couple guys who have the ability to get on base and run exceptionally well. I would prefer very few plodders on the team, but for reasons that are sometime obvious, there may be a couple. Some might be free swingers that hit for average, some may be super selective and bit for power. It helps if you have a couple that provide multi-faceted offense, combining Ave/obp/slg. I want offense, but not so bad as to allow for major sacrifice of strong “D” and solid fundamental baseball. Like anyone else, I would be a bit more lenient at the corners, though only if forced into that position by personnel shortages beyond my control... Defense remains the most difficult entity to evaluate. It’s one of the modern “moneyball” values...

The pitching has outperformed reasonable expectations. I think it is pretty clear that the improved defense is part of the reason why that’s happened.

Interesting, although not surprising. Each of those guys is 28-29 years old, each has an ERA of below 4.00 this season. Any one of them could help. The problem is a lot of other teams will be looking at them too. Depends what you have to give up to get them. Personally of that group I would have Boyd at the top of the list on the evidence-free theory that maybe you have to give up less to get him, but the way the starters have looked lately they all look like bright shiny objects.

I know Bumgarner has been great in the postseason, which is a plus, but there's a lot of mileage on that arm, he's been worked hard.

Must have been embarrassing for his mom when the arm dangled out of her for 5-6 years before he decided to finish being born...Picking stuff up in the grocery store, etc...
