The Rays are contenders, so they won't trade Morton. The rays have excellent pitching, they need hitting badly. Which these two players would give them. Both teams would strengthen where they are weak. It’s insane to think that the Rays, a team built around pitching, defense and fundamentals, would want to deal their ace for two players who haven’t proven to fit their core principals. So: Point one: Rays will not be putting Morton on the market. Point two: Andujar and Frazier are poor defensively. Point three: it’s been stated repeatedly on this site and requires only a modicum of common sense that the opposing GMs are not going to let the Yankees take stuff out of the closet that they’re considering taking to the swap meet just because the Yankees would like to trade them for a well-oiled piece that they would like to own. Point four: The Rays will likely have a short window open during which to contend. Historically we know that when their players mature they tend to have difficulty finding the funds to keep them. They’re not as destitute as Miami, but they’re already thinking about the next rebuild. Frazier will be in his thirties by that time, if his emotions can keep on an even keel, and if his brittle body holds up, he may still be in the game. Point five: c’mon on, man. That was a Karl trade...

I think both of these hitters are solid and young. Tampa is never going to win without hitting. Andujar would be the DH (his only likely role on the Yankees but unlikely now with EE). Frazier used to be a decent fielder, he is young enough to be so again. Morton is 36 so his skills will fade far faster than these players.
I have no illusion this trade will occur (I think elite pitchers are rarely going to be traded even by non-contenders). This was just a discussion of what makes sense to me not what I think will occur.
No one we want is likely to be traded to us...

(: “The Yankees trail by three with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. The bases are loaded and Aaron Judge steps to the plate. it’s a bunt! The defense is so confused and surprised that all nine fielders have now collided and the ball has been kicked free! They can’t find it! The Yankees all joyously sprint around the bases as their worthy opponents commit the doofus-fielding play of the year. They lie in a tangled mass of broken bones and bloody flesh as the Yankees win the game”... Post game interview, Aaron Judge: “Thanks for the transcendental message I received from Russ Noetsi I am the person being credited with this brilliant play. Make no mistake about it. It was Russ that won the game for us”...

I think the position that Cashman might find to most help us would be a middle relief pitcher. Burning ours out..

I see almost no pitcher listed on any site that would be available to us that would be a #1 unless we were willing to give up the sun, moon and stars. I like Minor and Stroman but I doubt either of those would happen. We will likely be facing Houston and the Dodgers if we get that far and it looks like at that point German may be our guy. Pitching worries me but absent a true #1 I am more worried about Voit, Sanchez and Hicks hitting with runners in scoring position against the Houston and Dodgers pitching staffs. All 3 of those strike out nearly 1/3 of the time and if/when Stanton comes back he does as well. We are much better this year with RISP but I am afraid that will come back to bite us in the butt as we face elite pitching. Having DJ and Urshela does make me feel better about this year though. Those two are flat out clutch.

Smart move. They’ll have to bonus him to get him to change his mind. Money fixes many things...

Yankees, we have a pitcher we’ll trade to you, but you don’t want him. Is that okay? Sure, we’ll take him! Here’s a bunch of money and some players! Thanks, Yankees! You’re always so easy to trade with!...
