Report: Yankees a 'main player' for LHP Happ Jon Heyman of Fancred writes that the Yankees "are a main player" for Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ. Heyman adds that he's "at or near the top" of the Yankees' list of starting pitcher targets. Rangers left-hander Cole Hamels is among some of the other names that have been linked to New York. Happ, 35, has compiled a 4.03 ERA and 110/28 K/BB ratio in 102 2/3 innings over 17 starts this season. He's due to become a free agent following the season. Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter Jul 3 - 2:44 PM While not mentioning the Yankees in an article on MLB.com, Joel Sherman says the Jays could get two "very good", but not "great" prospects. The article compared him to Rich Hill and Scott Kazmir and what teams got for them. www.mlb.com/news/mlb-trade-deadline/c-281084458?tid=282421090I like Happ and trust him more than I do Hamels against the Sox. I beginning to doubt whether or not Cash will go after an ace like DeGrom or Thor (Is he an ace?).

His flyball rates scare me but the trade market is really bare this summer. Hoping we find a nice analytical gem or two hidden under the typical names being mentioned.

But there is a chance Sheffield falls flat and you arent going to want to pitch him all the way into October yet. If someone like Happ is going to cost a couple of prospects who we probably wont miss in the grand scheme of things, that just adds depth and reliability to the staff. There are no aces truly available, none that will be reasonably priced anyways.

Give the Mets 4-5 guys for deG or a little less for Thor. These trades always go to the team that gets the stud. Verlander,Cole,Sale etc. Wheeler not looking like a bad option either.

I am coming around some on the thought of getting Happ...........each Sonny Gray start reveals more clearly that we need another arm that can hold other teams to say, 2 runs through 5 innings and then piece it together from the bullpen.....it's a way we could compete in the playoffs if we don't get an absolute stud....

I'd be Happ(y) with Happ as the lower rung type of talent. He's a bit long in the tooth, but I don't think we're looking for anything out of him beyond this season at this point...
Either of the two Mets would indeed be a nice prize (or even three if you include Wheeler), but the price tag would be huge...Just imagine the hullabaloo if we traded for BOTH of DeGrom and Syndergaard... (:
The Mets can have Walker, Ellsbury...Melky, Igawa, and IPK for all I care...

I'm a little awed at what I read on MLB.com.............reportedly the Mets have asked for a 1 for 1 trade of de Grom for Gleyber Torres.....
Jim Duquette thinks the Yankees should not take that trade, that is, Torres is too special, but dang......that would require some deep searching by the Yankees wouldn't it?.....I thought it would take more, but it shows how highly Torres is thought of.....
