Knic seem to be running out of gas. Pacers getting offensive rebounds, Knic missing free throws. Down by 1, 1 minute left. Knic called for a goal tend blocking a shot off the backboard. Down 3 now.

schmidt lowers his era to 2.95, 2nd to gil's 2.92. you'd take that any day from your #5 starter.

Trevino put on a clinic on framing in that 9th inning. Huge reason why we won was him stealing strikes and especially stealing that 2nd out It's impressive especially when you consider how hard it is to catch Holmes. His pitches move all over the place.

Brunson with the great step back 3 to tie it up Haliburton misses a three but the Pacers get it back. And Nembhard hits the 3 with the 24 second clock buzzer going off and 16.4 left. That dagger might be it for the Knic for tonight.

"You've done it again, Holmes!" ejaculated Dr. Watson. Although tonight he was more like Rupert "Escape" Holmes.

Brunson gets the inbounds tries to draw contact on a wild three, no call, and even if they brushed him, he didn't deserve the call. Nembhard tried to undercut but I'm not sure there was contact. Nesmith hits the first, then the 2nd, down by 5 with 9.4 left and it's over Divincenzo takes a desperate 3 with 3 seconds left, rebound goes to Hart and it's over. Pacers win against a depleted Knic team, cut the lead to 2-1.

O's Twins and Nats hold on for their wins, so Yanks stay 1/2 back of the O's, and are 6 1/2, 7 and 8 1/2 up on the Red Sox, Rays and Jays, respectively.
Game 2 of this series is tomorrow at 4:10 pm on YES, Nestor Cortes for the Yanks, Zak Littell for the Rays.

Playing the name game...Bradley is the first and only Taj in MLB history. There have been two dozen major league players with the last name Bradley, including one who founded a major board game company, Milton. (Actually, the game company was founded in Massachusetts in 1860, 118 years before the outfielder was born. Hasbro bought them out in 1984, merged them with Parker Brothers in 1998, and discontinued manufacturing games under the name Milton Bradley in 2009. I enjoyed playing Life, Battleship and even Yahtzee when I was a kid. Sigh.) Another "Brand Name" player was Dodgers and Pirates OFer RJ Reynolds. Another brand name of a sort was this guy... www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/armstja01.shtmlSharing the same name as this guy... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Armstrong,_the_All-American_Boy My father got a kick out of it whenever the pitcher came into a game.

That exact thought went through my head watching Soto rolling around on that turf. Safe to come out from behind the sofa, now.

O's lead the D'backs 2-1 bottom 5 in Baltimore. Twins lead the Jays 2-1 top 5 in Toronto Nats lead the Sox, 3-1 in the 5th in Fenway. Those Pesky Nats will be over .500 if they can hold on to that 3-1 lead. And now they are.

If anyone besides me didn't know, Yanks sent Marinaccio back to AAA despite his good pitching lately, and kept Tonkin on the staff to activate Burdi. Reason: Marinaccio has options left and doesn't have to pass through waivers and Tonkin doesn't Helluva way to run a railroad, ain't it. Schmidt done at 87 pitches and 6 2/3 innings. Tonkin is probably gone when Tommy Kahnle is ready to be activated. That sounds right.

OK, checked and responded to my notifications, so it's time for me to call it a night. (Of course it's night, it's 10 pm for spit's sake, what else would you call it?)
Soooo...see you all tomorrow sometime before 4 for the usual preview stuff, and then for the game. Good night to all of you. Bye.
