Great job by Schmidt. While Holmes hasn't appeared in a game in 4 or 5 days, it's not like he doesn't throw to a catcher between appearances. Little excuse for walking the leadoff batter. I remember when Booby Cox was coaching the Braves and a relief pitcher would come in and immediately walk the leadoff hitter. He'd shake his head and stomp around the dugout saying things I'm sure TBS would never allow on the air. That said, nice win and a shutout to boot. Can't really complain much about the pitching so far this year (which, of course, I just did).

I'd be willing to bet that before the season ends, Holmes will give up a run or two and probably blow a save or two but what I like about the guy is that even when he's not on, he battles his azz off.

That he does. Just hope when the bad outing comes, and it will, he won't let it get in his head. Was it last year or the year before he went from lights out to almost unusable until he kinda righted the ship later in the year?

I remember him, and my father reacted the same way. I guess it would be the way I would react if a pitcher named Beaver Cleaver made it to the majors.

Yeah, and he was stupid like The Beav too. But, what a fine hook shot Ward had! That he did. And he could do it while wearing his cardigan and a tie.

BTW Rizz before your time, but our Celtic hero Tommy Heinsohn had a nice hook shot himself. I can still see him putting one over on Rudy Larusso.

Basketball begins and ends with one name. Wilt… Bill Russell would disagree.

Yes, he was a coach and then commentator during my youth, but they would often show clips of those dominating Celtic teams. Dave Cowens had a fine hook shot, and Bird and Walton could shoot them with either hand.

Basketball begins and ends with one name. Wilt… Bill Russell would disagree. The only man who perhaps could at least give Wilt a battle… but I believe Wilt still comes out on top. I wonder what he’d do in todays game?

Both taken by the Celtics during the era of regional draft rights. Same way the Philadelphia Warriors got Wilt (and Paul Arizin and Tom Gola and Guy Rodgers, all great players back in the day.)
