Julien has never faced Holmes before And the 1st meeting is over immediately, as Julien goes after the sinker away, hits a fly to Verdugo in medium deep left, easy play, game over.
Nice, polite 5-1 beating on the Twins by the Yanks in the series opener. Twins had only one mild challenge after the 3rd inning. Yanks get to 13 games over .500 for the 1st time this season at 28-15 after bouncing off 12 over a couple of times.
Red Sox still tied 4-4 bottom 12 at Fenway, but have 1st and 2nd with nobody out.
Yanks, for the moment, gain a half game on both the O's and the Jays, and move back into 1st by a 1/2 game.

Sox just walked off the Rays on a RBI single by some guy I never heard of before, Romy Gonzalez, to win in the 12th, 5-4.
So the AL East is complete for the night. Sox keep pace with the Yanks, Rays lose a full game, O's and Jays fall 1/2 game back each.
Yanks, back in first for tonight, lead the O's by 1/2 game now, the Sox by 5 1/2, the Rays by 7 and the Jays by 8. Knic up by 24 with just over 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Looking to take a 3-2 lead in their series back to Indianapolis tomorrow for game 6.

a nice "tidy" win to go 13 games over .500 for the 1st time.
rodon started a little shakey until he found his slider but overall a very solid start. will give potg. 3 scoreless by hamilton & holmes. good to see hamilton get back on track.
a rare game where everyone got a hit. will give verdugo & stanton honorable mention. 2 hits for volpe, stanton, torres & ocab. continue our mastery of the twins.

3rd star of the game: Hamilton, for two scoreless innings in relief, looking the best he's looked in a while, and pitching himself out of trouble with 2 K's after allowing the tying run to come on deck by giving up a hit to Julien, the first batter he faced in the 7th. 2nd star of the game: hard to choose, just about the entire lineup contributed something today, but I'll give it to Stanton for his solo HR and incredible first infield hit since the Protestant Reformation. 1st star: Rodon, who gave up a leadoff HR to the red-hot Jeffers, but battled out of jams in the 1st and 3rd, before settling down and making it through 6 innings of 1-run ball, striking out 6 without walking a batter, and earning himself a solid W. He's now 4-2 on the season with a strong 3.31 ERA as the notional ace with Cole still on the comeback from his arm inflammation.

Hartenstein with 17 rebounds tonight, 12 of them offensive rebounds, getting the Knic a ton of 2nd chances.

Good news for the Rangers: Bruins top the Panthers 2-1 tonight to extend that series, meaning the Panthers won't get extra rest before facing the Rangers.
Assuming the Rangers win one of the last two, not a sure thing at all now. Hurricanes have found a formula. Stay out of the box and make the Rangers earn it 5 on 5.

OK, checked notifications, so I think it's time to say auf wiedersien for tonight.
Knic win by 30, take a 3-2 lead back to Indianapolis for Game 6 tomorrow evening.
Game 2 of this series against the Twins is tomorrow at 7:40 pm, unfortunately on Prime Delayed Video, so I'll be my usual 2-4 pitches behind Gameday. Marcus Stroman for the Yanks has his hands full; Twins' ace Pablo Lopez is the opposing pitcher.
That's going to do it for me for tonight. See you guys tomorrow evening. Good night to all. Bye
