And I just realized Wrong Thread Alert. Calling out myself. Kindly move to misc!! Lol. Give me credit for lack of lucidity as well. I never noticed a thing. Now, if this was a murder case, your confession may not help you much. We’ll have to wait for el Moderator to see if you’re going to jail for this…I don’t think we’ve ever had a confession from someone turning themselves in before…

I'm so honored to wear the crown. I take the position very seriously and hope to use it to promote peace on earth and to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.
Sounds like one of those Boll & Branch linen ads that run constantly on Extra Innings. Saving humanity with organic cotton.

Hey Kaybli -- to be honest, what turned me away was the league's emphasis on political issues. I got tired of Popovich and Kerr injecting their angry politics into everything. The business with China was more or less the cherry on top. But it was gradual -- I preferred the more team-oriented passing game, the tighter more physical defenses I grew up with. I was an avid NBA fan for probably 50 years. There were only eight teams -96 players -- in the whole league when I started following it. It was easy to literally know who every player in the league was. Hockey only six teams; they played each other 14 times a year, so it got very personal. Actually I've cut out not just the NBA, but the NFL and NHL as well in recent years. Just can't get as interested. But I retain fond memories of what they were. I don't miss them, and they don't miss me! Sad that politics has to ruin everything. For me, I used to follow the Knicks religiously in the 90s but my interest faded as they started to become terrible. What about you rizzuto, why did you stop following the NBA? My interest in the NBA began to wane when I started coaching basketball 🏀. About that time, early 1990s, traveling, carrying the ball, and different rules for the stars became more frequent and refs started swallowing their whistles. The lack of team basketball, passing, and continuity plays stated to give way to one on one isolation plays with no one defending the paint or the bucket - watching dunks rather than defending them became a business decision. Then, the thuggish look and demonstrations of testosterone posturing overshadowed the product on the court. Teams that tried to play playground basketball prior to that time were crushed by good teams and were perennial losers. Suddenly, it became vogue and normalized. The truth is you can go to any outdoor court in any city and see the same type of game. I once saw LeBron James take nine, that’s 9, steps without a dribble or being called for traveling. Just a joke.

When the dunk became so routine. I used to watch those old Washington Bullets /Wizards. I didn’t like the name change for one thing. But then the play style changed and I realized it wasn’t going to go back. When the dinks became rampant I recall that some were calling to raise the hoop. I need that it wasn’t going to go that way because no one was going to watch a basketball game that wound up 48-47 with 12’ high hoop. I figured if they did raise it, someone would just find a way to make 9’ tall people to counteract it… BOOOOO!!!
The inside game, the outside game. It became the dunking game… the traveling game, so silly. Like a parody of the Bugs Bunny basketball. Can you even parody a parody?…

I've pretty much divorced myself from the NBA in recent years, but this story is dominating the sports talk in Philly, as you might expect. Ben Simmons has been the object of mystery for years, but this performance will almost certainly be the last straw if the 76ers can find someone to take him. He was 15-45 from the foul line against Atlanta, and for the playoffs overall shot 34.2 percent from the line, the worst mark in the history of the NBA. His reluctance to shoot has clearly moved into pathological territory. Embiid and even Doc Rivers have been conspicuously non-supportive this morning. As for the Hawks-- talk about a loser franchise-- this is only the second time in the past 50 years that they have made it to the conference finals. The only other time was 2016. Before that, you have to go back to the 1969-70 squad, which was swept in the Western Conference finals by the Chamberlin-West-Baylor Lakers. Those Hawks had two HOFers-- player-coach Richie Guerin and center Walt "Big Bells" Bellamy. Other key players were "Super Lou" Hudson, "Jumpin' Joe" Caldwell and Butch Beard. As you can see, nicknames were popular then. I'd be surprised if many here recall those guys. The last time the Hawks were in the finals was 1961, when they were still playing in St. Louis. Their last championship was 1958-59, led by Rizzuto's man Bob Pettit. More proof that you're old is if you remember when the Hawks were consistently a playoff contender. 15-45 in free throws is just unfathomably bad. Your average Joe off the streets could easily shoot better than that.
What is it about the NBA that has you turned off pipps? If he shot his free throws underhanded he could make at a higher percentage. Really, how pathetic is that your point guard can only make 1/3 of his free throws? I've never seen anything like this.

Chi, Doc Rivers started backtracking this afternoon on Simmons after saying earlier that he "didn't know" what his future as point guard would be. Maybe the Sixers just don't want to drive down his trade value, or maybe they feel they've invested so much in him that they will sink or swim with him.
How did you become a Sixers fan? I know Pittsburgh didn't have an NBA team. Was it Dr. J who brought you into the fold?
