It's going to be hard to take him out with the way he's pitching. Yeah, I doubt he’s still considered a number 6 starter. Things change, but right now, he's the LAST guy they should conside to take out of the rotation when Cole is ready. He does give the Yanks as much time as they need to get Cole ready, as long as he's pitching like this.

3rd star of the game: Stanton for the 2nd inning HR that gave the Yanks the early lead. 2nd star: Judge, for the tack on HR in the 3rd and a bullet RBI double in the middle of the 3rd run rally, setting up Verdugo and Rizzo for the professional sac flies for extra tack on runs that provided cushion for Burdi and Holmes. 1st star: Gil, for his 5th straight brilliant start. The M's battled him hard in a couple of innings, but he still made it through 6 1/3 shutout innings, just 1 hit and 2 BB allowed and struck out 8 more. Gil has now won 5 in row, tied for 2nd in the AL with 6 wins, is 3rd in the league with an ERA of 2.11 and is 5th in K's with 70. Gil might still be in AAA if Cole hadn’t been hurt. Yeah, either that, or he might be setting up Holmes, and we'd have never known he could do...THIS.

Gil's been quite the revelation. Would be a shame if he were dropped from the rotation when Cole comes back, but that's the scuttlebutt. It's going to be a tough call for Cashman/Boone. Hopefully the starter sent to the pen can help out with the team's shaky middle relief.

You’re new here, so no worries, but we haven’t scuttled butts here in over ten years. Inger was the last one, from a fall on some stairs. He hasn’t been the same since. “Inger’s Ass Injury” is a sad chapter in this forum’s history.

OK, Yanks have no day off, must fly across the country to begin a 9-game west coast trip with 3 in San Diego against the Padres. They'll get a day off after that series, then play 3 in the old Chamber of Horros™ in Anaheim, and finally 3 in Oracle Park in San Fran against the Giants.
1st game in SD is 9:40 pm tomorrow on YES; Carlos Rodon tries for his 4th good game in a row, he's 5-2 with a 3.27 ERA in 10 starts this season. Yu Darvish goes for the Padres; he's on fire lately, 4 wins in a row, 0 ER allowed in 24 innings with just 2 BB and 24 K's. The last two with both 7 innings of 2 hit shutout ball against the Dodgers and the Braves back-to-back. He's 4-1 on the season with a 2.08 ERA, just 2 HR in 47 2/3 innings, and a WHIP right around 0.900.
2nd game is also 9:40 pm Saturday evening, again on YES; Marcus Stroman goes for the Yanks after pitching perhaps his best game of the season vs. The M's on Monday. The bullpen blew it late, but Stroman was terrific. He's 3-2 on the season with a 3.04 ERA. Dylan Cease for the Padres, he's had multiple dominant starts this year but got smacked around a bit by the Braves in his last start, 9 hits, 2 HR and 5 runs in 4 innings. He's 5-3 with a 3.02 ERA and a very low WHIP of 0.932. Cease still leads the NL in hits per 9 at 5.33 even after the poor start vs. Atlanta.
3rd game is Sunday afternoon at 4:10 pm, again on YES. (So...no Prime Delayed Video casts, no Smoltz blather-ruined FOX casts, and no ESPNTooMuchHelmetCamAndWayTooManyIn-gameInterviewMurderDeathKillcasts, YAY!!) Clarke Schmidt, who still hasn't allowed more than 3 runs in any of his 10 starts, and is 5-2 with a 2.59 ERA goes for the Yanks. Quality veteran Joe Musgrove, who's struggling so far this season (3-4 with a 5.93 ERA and a WHIP over 1.5) throws for the Padres. Padres not fooling around here, throwing their notional top three starters at the Yanks. Yanks will not face their former teammate, Mike King, or the 5th starter knuckleballer Matt Waldron in this sereis.
OK, that's it for the series preview, now to check notifications...

Just terrible. Five run lead, and Burdi walks two.. What is he thinking, or is it he just can't throw a strike when needed.... He’s wild. Great stuff often is…

OK, notifications checked and responded to where needed, so I'm going to get going. Almost 30 hours to the next game, and I'll see you guys late tomorrow evening as the Yanks will likely go past midnight for the first time this year. Good afternoon to all of you. Bye.

I'm off to Chicago tonight to catch the Neil Young and Crazy Horse concert. I'll talk to you all later tomorrow when the Yankees are on the other coast. Have a great rest of your day!
