I wanted Harper. Never wanted Stanton. I did think he was going to put the Yankees over the top and not turn into a turd. Never liked him as a Marlin and don't like him as a Yankee.

Neil’s getting up in years. When we went to see McCartney in Lancaster, PA, I think he was 74. He was a bit more than 2 hours late. No apology, but at least he showed up and put on a surprisingly great show. Jimmy Buffet always started his concerts on time and gave a fantastic show. |

I wanted Harper. Never wanted Stanton. I did think he was going to put the Yankees over the top and not turn into a turd. Never liked him as a Marlin and don't like him as a Yankee.
Apparently you haven't been paying attention to Stanton's production this year. The obvious Gleyber/Stanton comparison is to another poster who's also referred to a Yankee player as a "turd". |

No matter what Stanton does this year at the plate there are facts that can't be denied. He does not play the field. He does not run and need a PR. When running he does not give 100% and it is accepted so he doesn't get hurt. The way the Yankees are built they can use the DH position to keep players fresh and rotated, Stanton as a 1 tool DH kills that. He crushes balls but also has very ugly swings. He is paid as one of the top players in MLB and he is far from it. A young player or hard worker that deserves a shot will root in the minors or get traded becasue Stanton spot is guaranteed by his salary.
I hope Stanton has 50 HRs and crushes it in the Postseason BUT I will never be a true fan of his and can't wait until he is no longer a Yankee. Harsh but how I feel.

I said he was a turd in the punch bowl, which is different than a general turd. I believe at the time he was at something like a -0.5 WAR (for his 15 million) and was the one and only huge disappointment on the team. The team was like a nice bowl of punch. A delicious mixture of alcohols, juices, pieces of fruit, etc. But with one turd floating in it, out of place. He's looked better as of late, at least as a hitter, but IMO they would have been much better served trading him in the offseason when his value was high. Right now you'd need some Cashman magic to get anything of value for him in a trade. And he's not worth a QO so he will walk as a FA with nothing coming back. |

He doesn't play the field at this point or go all out running to prevent leg injuries. It's the smart way to deploy him and it's obvious from his production that it's working out well. They are resting Stanton on occasion and letting Judge DH. That's going very well, would be even better if Grisham could hit even a little. I don't think young guys like Dugo and Soto need days as the DH. Who else needs to be kept fresh exactly? What he's paid in salary means very little to the Yankees. The only number they care about is his luxury cap hit, and that's about 21 million which isn't too bad. Who works harder than Stanton? Who's a better teammate than Stanton? Which players in the minors has he blocked/made to rot? Florial? Andujar? I really can't think of anyone. He's also been a monster post season performer as well, and his home runs are unlike any other player's. His ABs are must-see TV. |
