Can we please move on from Volpe or at least get him out of leadoff?

Volpe takes a sinker inside, ball 1 FB into the zone up and away, taken, 2-0 Takes a splitter low near the corner away, 2-1 Maybe someone on the bench told him to stop chaisng everything Gausman throws. Takes a splitter diving down and in, 3-1 Beats him clean on a FB inside corner above the waist, big swing, looking for extra bases, and missed under. 3-2 FB inside corner waist high, Volpe with a more controlled swing spoils Volpe gets a FB just outside middle, and misses it clean for the K and a hat trick. 1 down.

He’s the biggest problem on the team. I’ve never hated watching a player more.

First pitch FB near the top, swung under, 0-1 on Soto. Splitter misses down and in, 1-1 Splitter bounced over the inner half, 2-1 Splitter winds up waist high, outer 3rd, Soto way early, thinking it was a FB, and he might have hurt the hand a bit there, 2-2 Tightens up the batting glove on the bad hands FB inside middle, fouled back. Should get another split here. And he did and it hits the bottom, but Soto gets the Soto-call, 3-2. 50-50 on Gameday, should've been a ꓘ, Soto got lucky, Gausman mad about it and he's right. Splitter on the low outside corner, foul tipped to stay alive. Splitter misses low on the inner half, ball 4.

Oh, about Bob Buhl, he went 0-70, not 0-72, in 1962. Which I think is the record for hitless at bats in one season. It is indeed… Buhl won 18 a couple times, 166-132; 3.55. His 103+ ERA saw quite a drop on his later years. He was a tough right handed dealer… As a batter: .089 .129 .091 .220 -38 Two doubles in over 800 AB and 76 total hits… Pipps will recall him as a member of the bushy eyebrows club. He was a baseball card guy for me…

FB inside, ball 1 FB runs inside, hits Judge, retaliation and pitching around Judge. 1st and 2nd, 1 out. That was about as obvious as you can get after he fell behind 2-0.

Verdugo takes a FB near middle, 0-1 Throw over on Soto Fb in the zone up and away, fouled straight back. Pitch clock violation on Verdugo, and that's strike 3. Inning over. Awful way to kill a rally.
Bottom 4, 4-1 Yanks. 24 pitches for Gausman in the 4th, and 88 through 4. Varsho, Jansen and Clement for the Jays in the 4th, should be Cole's last inning

In the Central:
The Brewers are playing a bit better and have won 6 of 10. They're now 15 games over .500 at 49-34. The Cards continue their slow climb, have won 6 of 10 themselves, and are now 2 games over .500 and 6 1/2 games back. The Pirates, Red and Cubs keep milling back and forth for the final 3 spots. All three teams have lost 6 of 10. The Pirates are currently 3rd, 4 games under, the Reds in 4th, 5 games under and the Cubs are last, 6 games under. the three teams are 9 1/2, 10, and 10 1/2 games behind the Brewers and 3, 3 1/2 and 4 games behind the Cards for 2nd.
