This team does have a habit of beating itself more often than you would expect. They do. What a horrible way to go into the All Star Break.

incomprehensible. the worst loss of the season. like watching a horror movie. should have been money in the bank and 1st place heading into break. shoulda been celebrating rice's big HR.
holmes is certainly on the hook for the 2 walks. but he got cowser to hit a grounder that was too slow to turn the DP. volpe's error and verdugo's misread ultimately buried us. misplays by 2 usually reliable fielders. 4 outs. like i said incomprehensible.

Off the top of my head Cleveland, KC, and this one all were blown saves going for sweeps that ended in walkoffs. They said 4 walk off losses so I'm forgetting one for sure. This just isn't a real title contender. A real title contender makes the tough fight back from behind twice, and once Rice hits his enormous clutch shot, steps on the throat of their main competition. Holmes just simply doesn't get enough swings and misses to K enough guys and when good hitters make contact, bad things can happen. Title contendeers don't blow the 3rd out twice. Title contenders don't turn a leadoff single into bases loaded with 2 walks when they're trying to close things out. They seem certain to make the playoffs, but I don't know how far they'll get. As currently constructed, it won't be a ring. Baltimore just finished their homestand 1-5 and should have went 0-6. There's a lot of up and downs during the season.

OK, I'm calm enough now to recap.
Yanks blow 2 leads and a tie, so despite comeing from behind twice, they wind up blowing a game that should never be lost, not enough to this young, talented and mentally tough Orioles team, 6-5.
The loss is the Yanks 18th in the last 26 games, drops them back to 18 over .500 at 58-40 heading to the All-Star Break. Yanks might lose ground to both the Red Sox and Rays as well. Boston up 4-3 in the 6th in Fenway, Rays lead the Guardians, 2-0 in the 6th in Tampa. Don't look now, but the Rays starting pitching is coming together, and might be overwhelming in the 2nd half. Jays and D'backs get underway in a little less than an hour.
If the scores hold, Yanks will be 1 game out at the break, the Sox just 3 1/2 behind them, and the Rays just 9 back.

Pirates gave up on Holmes despite his good stuff because of command issues. We are starting to see that haunt him too much. Not only did he walk guys, but bottom of the order guys he should be going after. Feels like he pitches everybody like they are Mickey Mantle. Few things more frustrating than relief pitchers who can't throw strikes.

CASHMAN: how about getting a TRUE CLOSER He came in with a two run lead against Boston, they tie the game then this loss to Baltimore. Despite the bad defense he just walks too many batters!!!

Yea this isn't one of those years where a team is 10 games ahead all season and look unbeatable. Plus when it mattered here the Yankees did come out to play hard all weekend. Two dumb mistakes did them in more than anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The Astros are coming together, and the pieces are jelling. After a terrible start, they're 37-21 over the last two months, and about to take over 1st in the Central again. Until the Yanks prove they can beat them in the post-season, they're still the Astros. This O's team has struggled lately but have more than enough pieces on their farm to trade for a top starter, like Crochett of White Sox, to shore up their rotation. Yanks have too many holes and not enough assets to trade for more than just a good reliever or two, and that's not going to be enough. It makes big difference if Gil's move to his slider keeps working, but Stroman and Rodon are rotation problems, and if they take them out of the rotation, they both might quit on the team.

The Yankees choked. They could have went into the all star break with a sweep of their division rivals.

Ruined what would’ve been the biggest win of the year and a great feeling heading into the break. As was mentioned they’re phony contenders as they lack killer instinct and the intangibles needed to win a championship.
Holmes needs to be out of the closing role immediately. Frankly, he could be released for all I care. Runners on every single time he’s out there it seems. Verdugo is another one I don’t care if I don’t ever see again. Defenses lapses mixed in with a terrible fall off at the plate. Grisham is more productive right now.

This is a complete over reaction when your biggest division competition right now just lost 5 games in a row themselves and only won because of two dumb Yankees fielding plays. Nothing about "killer instinct" lost this game. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
