Pardon me, Paulie, but that analyis is both boiler-plate and almost totally irrelevant to their situation the last five weeks and today. Nestor gave up just 1 run in the first three innings. Yanks had men in scoring positionin the first two innings, couldn't do a damn thing against a very capable pitcher. Then the roof caved in. The following problems won't go away until they do: they have multiple hitters in the lineup who are probably finished/so screwed up they can't contribute: DJ, Volpe, Verdugo. They have two pitchers in the rotation who have inadequate stuff/command: Stroman, and Rodon, and other, Cortes, who's hit and miss depending on whether he has command and his good stuff that day. The bullpen has a shaky closer and is short 1 or 2 power arms. This team is 9-18 in 27 games on MERIT, or lack of merit. He was basically saying the pitchers have to be lights out for them to win. Not a good sign.

Can't hit, can't pitch, can't win. This team has a LOT of holes. Cashman's roster construction is...not good. A couple of nice wins lately have probably released some of the pressure, but I think it's pretty clear this franchise needs a new approach. Handing out bad contracts, a patchwork pitching staff, and failing to cobble together a major league calibre bench in a season you really have to go for it should be the long overdue nail in his coffin; but it probably won't be.

Sinker inside, Walls geta s big jump, and fumbles it on transfer, Walls probably safe even if he gets the throw away.
Sorry about the lapse in pitch by pitch, but I needed to get that rant out of me.
FB below middle, popped to right, easy play for Judge, 2 down.

Not to mention you have your bench filled with Davis and Jones, who have no purpose on the roster, and Narvaez, who apparently can't even be trusted to catch a day game after a night game.

1st pitch hanging slider above middle middle, lifted to right center, easy play for Grisham. Rosario retired and so are the Rays in the 6th. Bottom 6, 6-0 Rays LeMahieu, then back to the top for Rice and Soto.

DJ takes a pitch high Then a FB at the very top is called a strike, 1-1 Cutter almost right down the middle, grounded to Walls for the 1st out.

Soto gets a FB above middle, fouls it off, 0-1 Fb moving inner 3rd near the corner ties him up a bit, hits a lazy fly to center, and Siri showboats with a basket catch against his chest, inning over. Another easy 1-2-3 for Bradley, this one just 9 pitches and 84 through 6. He makes it through 7 because of 16 pitches, 6 outs the last two innings. Top 7, 6-0 Rays. 2-3-4 for the Rays in the 7th: Paredes, Mead and Arozarena.

Don't feel this team is capable of big rallies.

Yeah, the offense is just two elite hitters and some occasional production from others. They're only 18th in runs scored in July, so the struggle is real.

Slider below the knees, near middle, fouled down. 11th pitch of the at bat coming, Tonkin about to throw his 30th pitch. Sinker just inside fouled again. Boone losing Tonkin tomorrow for sure, and heading toward losing him for Monday as well. Slider yanked low/away, ball 4.
