The 80's were rough when it came to the Yanks trading prospects: MGriff, McGee, Buhner, Drabek, Tewksbury, Deshaies Good memory, Chi...The old man wanted to win now!!! "They traded Byew-NAH"?!! (Seinfeld)... I forgot Steve "Bye Bye" Balboni who was the runner up in the first base battle to Mattingly and subsequently dealt to KC. Bye Bye did win a WS title with the Royals, so it ended up well for him.

I had forgotten that we got Balboni back at the end of his career for a couple of seasons. Did you know that he played in the Rangers minor league system for three more years and added 86 more HR to his minor league resume after his second tour with the Yankees?... I was quite disappointed that we didn’t keep old Bye-Bye at the time we dealt him away...I expected great things from him...

Brining up Balboni reminded me that he and Joe Lefebvre were both drafted out Eckard College in St. Petersburg, Fl. I don't know why I remember that?

Brining up Balboni reminded me that he and Joe Lefebvre were both drafted out Eckard College in St. Petersburg, Fl. I don't know why I remember that? If only we had the power to understand that filing cabinet in our heads. To know how and when to pull information up at it’s time of greatest value. I know that there are times when I’m trying to sleep that the damnedest things pop into my head. I’m getting much better about reducing their power and sleeping better and longer than I ever have in my insomnia-affected life. Does that mean something good, or does it harbinge old age and precede death? No matter. We live for as long as we can, then we move on...Little we can do to change that. But what of what we’ve put away in that filing cabinet? It can’t be let to go to waste can it? It’ll be exciting to find out when the flame extinguishes. But no hurry. Keep about the business of living. Enjoy it, every moment...every thought... every memory...

I forgot Balboni came back to the Yanks too, I don't really remember anything past his KD days.

What if:
What if someone told you that a twenty year old prospect in Rookie Ball would pitch as a reliever all season until the final game of the year and would allow only one earned run that season? And that he was assigned to start the final game of the year, and that in that game he pitched a no-hitter?
What if you were told that he pitched 52 innings that season and only allowed 17 hits and 7 walks? Then that he struck out more batters than innings pitched?
Does that sound real to you? If you want to make it real, just look up Mariano Rivera’s Rookie League record, and it will become very, very real.
In addition, in his rookie season in the AL, Rivera allowed more hits than innings pitched. That’s the only season in his pro career that he allowed more hits than innings...

Do Staton and Judge count? They’ve both had formal schooling, so one would assume so...
