Technically, so is Cole, if he opts out. But Hal can negate the opt out by adding a guaranteed 2029 season of $36 million in what would be Cole's age 38 season. Yes, you're right. I knew that about Cole. Come to think of it technically so is Rizzo since the Yankees have an 17 million dollar option. I can't see anyway that the Yanks pick up that option, but Rizzo does have a 6 million opt out.

The rumor is Rizzo would be open to a 2 year deal that includes the option at a very steep discount.

I’d do a reduced salary player/coach deal with Rizzo, and make him the bench coach when he’s not in the field. He could be released from playing if he’s not performing and be a great coach…

Yep, though they're much less likely to pick up Rizzo's option. I think he might sign team friendly contract with the Yankees. Tough one for me. He hasn't played 100 games in either of the last two season and his OPS the last two years is .706, .636. I'd probably move on but if he's brought back I hope it's only one year.

But unless there are other veteran 1B options, I'm not sure if the Yankees want to start their 2025 season with the possibility of having a rookie 2Bman and two 1Bmen (Rice, OC) that haven't proved yet if they can hit MLB pitching on a consistent basis.

I think you are right and I haven't looked at what FAs are available. Yanks like Rizzo's leadership so I suspect he's back. I just feel that Cash too often signs guys to deals past their prime years. I get you have to do that with the superstars but he needs to be smarter with the guys who ain't superstars. Everything hinges on Soto.

Christian Walker (D-Backs) is a FA...RH/33 yo. .251 / .335 / .468 / .803 / 26 HR / GG. D-Backs are expected to be aggressive in re-signing him.
