I don't think this was a rumor with any substance behind it, just one guy opining. Every offseason the Yanks are linked to a lot of players that I don't think they actually pursue with any vigor.

Hoch is reporting that Soto has already met with three teams, the Jays, Red Sox and Mets. He meets with Yankees tomorrow. I'd like to believe this gets done quickly, but still expect it to drag out a bit. What is the over/under he is signed by Christmas?

I'd like to believe this gets done quickly, but still expect it to drag out a bit. What is the over/under he is signed by Christmas? Soto already knows what it's like to be a Yankee. I like to think that meeting is to talk about a contract. I think Soto signs before Christmas. If the money is close, I think he signs with the Yankees. I won't blame the Yankees if they don't match another team's ridiculous offer to Soto, because signing Soto is one thing, but a team still needs some financial flexibility in order to build a team around Soto, Judge and Cole.
The good news is that the Yankees have a lot of money coming off their books in the next 2 years. In 2026, the Marlins start paying 10 million towards Stanton's contract. Hicks' and DJ's contracts are up after the 2026 season. I expect the Yankees to trade Stroman and or Cortes.

We already traded Stroman. At least in a dream I had last night. I never did find out who went with him or who we got back….🤓 I do know the site was alive with chatter and we were all glad he was gone…

Cortes is an interesting guy. He is 30 years old and will make just over $8mm next season. If it weren't for the recent injury issues I think he would be in pretty high demand and his salary brings a lot of teams in play. There were rumors we tried to move him at last year's TDL and I could see renewed efforts to trade him. I like him much better than Stoman and would only move him if we got a useful piece in return.

Max, you forgot to factor in the bad contract Cash will inevitably take on this year.

'Big Apples' alternate identity makes Yankees' affiliate New York to the core
By Benjamin Hill@bensbiz
The Hudson Valley Renegades, seeking to celebrate core aspects of their home state, planted a seed that has now borne fruit. At a gala event on Friday morning, the New York Yankees' High-A affiliate unveiled their "Big Apples" alternate identity.
New York state is the second-largest producer of apples in the nation, and the Hudson Valley region is home to a preponderance of apple orchards. In this regard, Big Apples is a natural complement to the Renegades' prior local food-themed identity, the Cider Donuts. Of course, Big Apples is also a tribute to the Big Apple itself, New York City, located approximately 100 miles south of the Hudson Valley. The Renegades' affiliation with the Yankees began in 2021, further solidifying the connection between the two locales.
"Where Cider Donuts was very Hudson Valley-focused, this gives us an opportunity to branch out," said Joe Vasile, the Renegades PR director and broadcaster. "This is more of a broad celebration of the state of New York. ... We wanted to find something that would tie together all these different parts of the state, and Big Apples seemed like the perfect thing for that."
Heritage Financial Park, home of the Hudson Valley Renegades.
The Renegades will play as the Big Apples on 3 occasions in 2025 -- July 26th, Aug. 15th and Sept. 4th -- modeling logos and uniforms designed by San Diego-based Brandiose. The Big Apple depicted in the primary logo is named Empire, referencing New York's nickname as well as a variety of apples first derived within the state. Empire carries the Statue of Liberty's torch in his left hand and wears a giant foam finger on his right. The logo is incorporated into a blue and gold color scheme modeled after the colors of the New York state flag.
"We were really intentional about when we wanted the first game to be," said Vasile. "July 26th coincides with the date in 1788 when New York signed the Constitution and officially became a state. ... The New York ratifying convention took place in Poughkeepsie at the Dutchess County courthouse. So, just 25 miles north of the ballpark is where that happens."
Friday morning's Big Apples unveiling, held at the Renegade's home of Heritage Financial Park, featured representatives from apple orchards throughout the region. The team also announced a continuation of their partnership with Hudson North Cider, who previously worked with the Renegades on a Cider Donuts-inspired beverage.
"They're going to do a special Big Apple cider and it's going to use New Paltz apples, which is a town not that far from us," said Vasile. "So, another local tie-in with that."
Big Apples merchandise is now on sale, at the ballpark and online. While the Renegades gained notoriety for its scented Cider Donuts merchandise, the Big Apples offerings are currently aroma free.
"We talked about it, but couldn't figure out what we wanted the smell to be," said Vasile. "Apple-scented would probably be too close to what we had with Cider Donuts and then it's, well, what kind of smell would make it smell like New York?"

Hoch is reporting that Soto has already met with three teams,…….What is the over/under he is signed by Christmas? Soto claims that he is looking for a coherent winning strategy from his suitors. If he is serious about that then he should be looking to sign quickly. To allow his new team to make appropriate further changes to the roster in the light of his forthcoming arrival in a calm manner, not as a last minute panic…..

If Soto really cares about winning, he should take the Ohtani route and defer his salary so his club can continue to spend and add talent.
Anyone who hires Boras as his agent, only has one goal and that is to go to the highest bidder.

Anyone who hires Boras as his agent, only has one goal and that is to go to the highest bidder. That large deferral by Ohtani was a special case because he makes such an large amount money in endorsements. No other player is going to defer 96% of his or even 50% and why should they? The owners are billionaires, they can afford it.

A Bellinger/Hoerner package that sends Stroman out would be awesome IMO. That seems pulled out of thin air and not sure it's something CHI would have any interest in. I'd "overpay" in prospects though to get them on the phone if they're open to it all.
It adds about $20M to the payroll but it fills 1B (or the OF) and 2B with quality players so $20M is very reasonable for that. Always tough to lose pitching depth but Cole/Rodon/Gil/Cortes/Schmidt is enough that we don't have to go out and spend on innings eaters, IMO. So they can devote the rest of their spending to retaining/replacing Soto and the bullpen. Bellinger being a lefty and capable of 1B or CF gives you plenty flexibility to look for either a 1B or an OF and either a lefty or a righty to replace Soto if you do lose out, so it makes the hard task of replacing him a bit less daunting. Hoerner fits well replacing Torres at both 2B (big upgrade) and batting leadoff (not ideal but he's solid enough there and we lack other proven options).
2B Hoerner (R) RF Soto (L) CF Judge (R) 1B Bellinger (L) DH Stanton (R) 3B Chisholm (L) SS Volpe (R) C Wells (L) LF Dominguez (S)
Sign me up for that, but with the caveat that we'd want to stack some righty hitting bench players. I could see us struggling vs. lefties again there, particularly with teams sending out their power left handed relievers late in games. Wells and Chisholm have serious platoon splits. Dominguez has been better as a LH hitter than RH in his career (reason he never got a platoon split with Verdugo last year). Bellinger doesn't have drastic platoon splits but still better vs. righties. Volpe is below league average against both so wouldn't stop a team from brining in lefty relievers. Hoerner is better hitter than Volpe but no power so once again wouldn't scare anyone from using a lefty. Stanton has posted mostly reverse splits or insignificant splits in recent years so even as a righty power hitter not sure he's a lefty masher that would stop you from using a lefty. Soto and Judge are such prodigious hitters against both that not sure platoon splits weight that heavily.
You can manage that in the regular season with off days and playing your RH bench bats. But in the playoffs when you're running out the starters every game, we'd be vulnerable to a team that had great LH pitching. Bellinger might not be the best fit WITH Soto coming back for that reason. A RH hitting 1B might make more sense.
Probably a moot point since I don't see Cubs doing the deal anyway though. I'd see if they any interest in moving Hoerner as a standalone though. He'd fit well as a quality defender on the IF with leadoff experience. He's played some limited games in the OF and 3B and been a full time SS so maybe some potential to develop into a real utility guy.
