Are there any managers that scream at players these days, or over the past decade? Unfortunately, Hal will not try to get a manager like that. Unlike his father, he does not care even if the Yankees finish 0-162. What really has angered me over the past few years was how he let his guys get away with smiling when they were not doing the jobs he was paying them to do. He could have kept that money for himself, especially if he wanted more money for himself. I will stick by the Yankees, and I may sound crazy, but this makes me wish I was a fan of one of the small market teams. Their owners may be as cheap and greedy as Hal, maybe even more so, but at least the players don't get paid much! Even if they are not good, I almost know they're showing heart, soul, and desire to win; they can't laugh all the way to the bank if they lose.

Agree, if we had a manager who screamed at players we would have won multiple championships the past decade and we would have FAs lining up to put on the pinstripes. Pretty sure if Boone would have screamed at Soto a couple times this season he would have signed by now.
Also agree with your point on Hal. With the LT, Yanks are only spending about 358MM on payroll last season. Cheap son of a @#$#@!. I Hal doesn't go over $400MM next season I'm done with this team!

There are ways to get a grown man's attention without being unhinged and unable to control one's emotions. One can be matter-of-fact and candid and even blunt without succumbing to rudeness and disrespect. Anyone who has been in a leadership role in an organization knows this. I, for one, do not push well and have never accepted bullying behavior in others, so I certainly would not display such behavior and still expect to elicit respect.

Alex Cora yells at his players ... he has a WS win as a manger, bench coach and player Intesity is important in sports ... That's been a huge problem for the Yankees for years now Actually Boone is probably the most intense emotional guy on the team ... he just needs to direct some of his fury at the players instead of the Umps DJL - Passive Rizzo - Passive Cole - Passive Stanton - Passive Judge - Very Passive Gleyber - Very Very Passive Volpe - Very Very Very Passive Soto, Verdugo, and somewhat Jazz brought some intesity to the team this year and ...what do you know ... first WS in 15 years

You wont find many professional athletes that feel bullied by a loud coach or intense people around them They wouldn have made it this far if they did. Your work place, mine as well, is a much much different environment then the professional athletes work place.

No manager worth his salt screams at players in public. DJL - very good career Rizzo - very good career and team leader Cole - HOFer, great playoff numbers Stanton- great career, border line HOFer, great playoff numbers Judge, great career, maybe a HOFer Volpe - very young Soto - maybe the best hitter in baseball, clutch and about to become one of the richest Is your point that these guys would be better if they weren't so "passive". BTW, how do you define that? Throwing helmets, kicking coolers?

I got the same problem going on with my Dolphins right now. We got player friendly managers that are running a country club. Mistakes and fundamental errors are accepted and unchecked. We don't need a loudmouth egotistical prick but we need someone to challenge the plaers and hold them accountable.

This is the very definition of a straw-man fallacy.
And, there is more than a subtle distinction between raising one's voice and "screaming."
You wont find many professional athletes that feel bullied by a loud coach or intense people around them They wouldn have made it this far if they did. One can be intense, expect high-level performance, and engender a sense of urgency without screaming or losing composure at the first sign of distress (e.g., hysterically posting multiple times that the season is over because of a poor performance during the regular season)Your work place, mine as well, is a much much different environment then than the professional athletes work place. In any organization, athletic or not, professionalism is expected, and consistency, honesty, accountability, and positivity in leadership is respected.

If someone raises their voice that is bullying? This is the very definition of a straw-man fallacy. And, there is more than a subtle distinction between raising one's voice and "screaming." - I guess it depends on how sensitive you are to loud voices in your work environment You wont find many professional athletes that feel bullied by a loud coach or intense people around them They wouldn have made it this far if they did. One can be intense, expect high-level performance, and engender a sense of urgency without screaming or losing composure at the first sign of distress ... Yelling and Screaming is a way to release stress and Anxiety and improve physical performance ... That is why it is done in all sports ... Losing composure can be done with our without screaming i.e. Game 5, top of inn 5, World Series ... in fact if Boone had walked to the mound called the infield in and said "get your fuckin shit together ... this is the fuckin World Series ... let's end this fuckin inn and play tomorrow " ... possible there is a different outcome (e.g., hysterically posting multiple times that the season is over because of a poor performance during the regular season) ... who did that ?Your work place, mine as well, is a much much different environment then than the professional athletes work place. In any organization, athletic or not, professionalism is expected, and consistency, honesty, accountability, and positivity in leadership is respected. ... What does consistency, honesty, accountability, and positivity have to do with a coach that screams or not ??? Professionalism depends on the profession ... i.e a professional football coach acts much different then a professional school teacher, a professional footbal player much different then a professional customer service rep

My point was if Hal was really, really cheap, like a Marlins owner, we might have a really bad team overall, but all of our guys would show passion and fire. Hal is, most likely, spoiling his players rotten with huge paychecks and a lenient manager. On the other hand, Eduardo Nunez stunk with the Yankees, but if anything, he was making the league minimum, and no more, when he was a Yankee.

Not sure one has anything to do with the other. Used to love watching Borg play tennis.

Just like there is a difference between bravery and bravado. There was plenty of fire within Mariano Rivera. Same with Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Derek Jeter. I played with many loud-mouthed, foul-mouthed, brash idiots; they never wanted the ball with the game on the line (and you would not have wanted the ball in their hands with the game on the line.). I also played and coached many different personalities; the loudest usually sat on the bench or were cut. That old adage of all hat, no cattle. John Wooden was pure class. Never used a word of profanity. Ten National Championships. Remember what Mariano Rivera said about Robinson Cano? "He doesn't burn to win championships." It takes passion to be disciplined; it takes passion to be dedicated; it takes passion to work harder than everyone else; it takes passion not to cheat and cut corners; it takes passion to focus the fire within, rather than flame out. A leader is someone who has grace under pressure; the person who keeps their head when everyone else is losing theirs. I used to tell my players, "Someone has to be the coolest cat in a crisis; might as well be you." No moment is too big if you relish the challenge. Prisons are full of guys who cannot control their emotions. So are junior high schools.
