Miggy Cabrera out for the season with a torn biceps tendon. I can attest from personal experience that the recovery can take a while. Cabrera tore his while swinging a bat. Tore mine by swinging a golf club--although mine was the trailing arm. I can also attest to the fact that it hurts like a son-of-a-bit#h when you do it. Oddly enough, this biceps tendon rupture has only a slight to moderate effect on the ability to lift things--like doing curls, etc. Other muscles are there that aid in that motion. What you really lose is the strength to turn your hand toward the sky (pronation?). After surgery, I couldn't turn my hand either direction more than about 10 degrees. Took a lot of stretching and holding hammers and a lot of time to get that range of motion back. Course, Miggy is younger than me.

Hopefully you are 100 percent recovered by now!

Happened several years ago. Mostly recovered. Just sayin' Miggy is in for a long rehab. Next couple of nights will be painful cause the muscle will knot up because there's nothing attaching at one end. If it's fully ruptured, they should do surgery within 10 days or so.

Miggy might have to change his fitness routine, like actually get one.

With his power all but gone even before this injury, and at 35 years old, this is about the end of the line for Cabrera I would guess. Oh, he'll come back, but I don't see him being much of a hitter from here on out...I think of him as almost as much of a marvel as Bartolo Colon to have played as long as he has with his poor fitness tendencies...Hard to believe he won't get to 3000 hits...but he won't...

If history in this game has taught us anything its that sticking a fork in the all-time greats is often premature. Also, hes under contract for 5 more seasons and before getting hurt was basically hitting .300 with an OBP of nearly .400. Thats hardly useless even though his power is noticeably down. He can hit somewhere, even if not a middle of the lineup power hitter. To think he cant average 65 hits per year over the next 5 years (to reach 3000) is a bit of a stretch.

Speaking of washed up, how bout your boy Pujols? Though he's been playing a bit better as of late, he's still rockin the sub 700 OPS for the second year in a row. Last year was a disaster with a -1.8 WAR. And hes signed all the way through 2021, a year in which he'll make 30 million dollars at age 41!

Sad to see the greats become shells of their former selves for sure. Pujols has basically steadily declined after turning 30 the way players always did before the age of PEDs. There were also some rumors earlier this year that he is actually a few years older than everyone thought, which is apparently not that uncommon for these guys who come over from the islands when they are kids. If thats the case and hes really actually 40+ years old, this is not too shocking. Three years left on the contract is going to be a grind though. Definitely will finish his career under .300 average, which is sad.

I was not aware of those rumors but I looked them up online just now. That contract just looks worse and worse. And now I am so glad we didn't give Cano that contract that would have taken him to age 42. Though Stanton's takes him to age 38.

Speaking of washed up players, there was little ballyhoo when Ichiro was released this year by the Mariners at age 44. He was only 9 for 44, with all nine hits being singles. I remember all the bold talk about his intention to play the outfield until he was 40 and then convert to pitching for the next 10 or so years...Yet, he only pitched once in his career. Seems odd that he never got opportunities to be the blow out pitcher during his later career to test his pitching chops... He left quite a mark on the American game with 3,089 hits, 509 stolen bases, and a career average at .311 despite playing for eight years beyond the last season he achieved a BA that high...If he had retired after the 2010 season, he would have left with a .331 average...Though he lead the league in hits that season, the decline afterward was a fast one...

P.S. I wonder how easy it would be for someone like us to change our identity...

P.S. I wonder how easy it would be for someone like us to change our identity... I imagine its much tougher in a country like the US, especially in this day and age with technology. In less developed countries with less sophisticated records/recordkeeping, its definitely far easier.
