I really believed the Mets were going to tear down this past winter and we'd get either DeGrom or Syndergaard. I guess this is the second best thing... (:
It's amazing how long it took teams to take this view of "fair wages" for their prospects after raising them from puppies. No different from industry though. They train people and then watch them walk away and then they train more and watch them walk away and then they...So I suppose we'd just have to call it the nature of man...

Boston starts the season off taking a 16-7 pounding by the Cubs. Price had nothing...Heath Hembtee couldn’t find the plate. Maybe it’s not a harbinger for the rest of the season, but I’m going to savor the moment...

The Red Sox will now win it all for as long as La Russa lives...With his genius and the trash collectors association behind them they can't be beat. Celebrations galore on the Marino lawn. Trash men spreading out all over the world, finding unknown talent in the four corners of the planet..."I'm telling you, TMarino...sign this kid today. I saw him shaking his baby rattle with a 21 degree uppercut. By 2040 he'll be raking in AAA"..."Thanks, I'll get on the horn with Tony and get it done. You watch the parents, don't let 'em go anywhere. If there's any Yankee memorabilia in the house, take care of it, ya' know what I mean"???

Scherzer highest paid; Red Sox top payroll list
Boston's payroll began the season at just under $222 million. In a sign the disparity between the top and bottom spenders has decreased, the figure was the lowest for a top payroll on Opening Day since 2012. The Chicago Cubs were second at $209 million, followed by the New York Yankees at $207 million, the Los Angeles Dodgers at $191 million, Washington at $185 million and San Francisco at $176 million. Only five teams are under $90 million: Oakland ($88 million), Baltimore ($78 million), Pittsburgh ($77 million), Miami ($71 million) and Tampa Bay ($61 million).

Look at Baltimore’s salary and then consider how much of their payroll is being taken up by Chris Davis. They’re spending less than $60m on the rest of the team.

Union scolds MLB for awarding arbitration 'belt'
Major League Baseball Players Association executive director Tony Clark scolded the MLB and its teams for making a game out of the arbitration process by awarding a toy championship belt to the team deemed having done the best to keep salaries down.
"That clubs make sport of trying to suppress salaries in a process designed to produce fair settlements shows a blatant lack of respect for our Players, the game, and the arbitration process itself," Clark said in a statement issued Friday.

But it’s okay for players to be proud of breaking new ground on contracts. I get it...

The Red Sox starting pitchers have a collective ERA of 13.20 through the first four games. This is the worst for any team after four games in the last ten years.
Yeah, I know, only 158 games to turn it around. But it's a little ray of sunshine while the Yankees go through their own out-of-the-gate annoyances.
