Derek Jeter held a Marlins Town Hall. It didn’t go well.mlb.nbcsports.com/2017/12/20/derek-jeter-held-a-marlins-town-hall-it-didnt-go-well/?cid=eref:nbcnews:textThe Miami Marlins were recently purchased via leveraged buyout, basically, and the money that once went to pay the salaries of popular superstars like Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna will now go directly into the pocket of the new bosses. It will not, however, make them better at baseball any time soon, . This is not making fans happy. To deal with this, the most visible of the new owners — Derek Jeter, who is paying himself $5 million a year to do a job for which he has no experience whatsoever — decided to meet Marlins season ticket holders in a town hall-style setup last night in an effort to make it all better. He did not make it all better. At the outset, it’s worth noting that the Marlins did not allow news cameras into the event. The ostensible reason: they didn’t want fans to be uncomfortable. That’s laughable, of course. It was because they didn’t want video of Derek Jeter getting yelled at or fumbling for nonsensical answers to questions for which he had no reasonable response. Cameras or no cameras, Jeter had a hard go of it. From one report: Jeter calmly answered questions for 90 minutes. Asked if the team got enough in return for Stanton, he pointed out that they got $265 million of relief that will give them the flexibility to do what they want to do. “We gave a gift, right?” Jeter said. “I hope every gift I give returns $265 million.” Nothing makes baseball fans happier than payroll relief. Another fan — a woman who was in tears, by the way — asked Jeter why he didn’t add pitching and keep the top offensive players the Marlins had. Jeter asked her in return what pitchers he could have signed. Fans love defeatism and condescension too. But hey, he’s Derek Jeter. He may not have experience with the business aspects of running a baseball team and he may have no idea what he’s doing when it comes to player evaluation and roster construction, but he does have that Derek Jeter magic. He does know how to give that personal touch to make people feel like their voices are being heard: When one fan told Jeter that she emailed her complaints to him, he recoiled in alarm. “You don’t have my email address,” he said. Keep up the good work, Captain. You’re doing a hell of a job so far.

The only 2 other well known folks less popular than Jeter around here are Raul “Starlin” Castro and Nicolas “Manny” Machado I don't get it?[/quote] I think numbers is giving some grief to the socialist leaders of Cuba (Raul Castro - Fidel's brother) and Venezuela (Nicolas Maduro...sounds like Machado). Being that Miami has a high Latino population (especially Cuban I believe), those clowns are especially unpopular. Most people who actually live under socialism dont particularly care for it...funny how that works.

Michcuse5: You should talk to the Folks in Norway (happiest country in the World) and the Netherlands, etc. How is marriage treating you? Playing any golf?
Tequila is thrilled this morning...she heard rumors Ellsbury the Retread, might waive his No-Trade Clause and might be traded to the S.F. Giants who need a CF???
"Tequila Do Not start your 'Goodbye Retread Dance' yet...you might curse us."

"Tequila Do Not start your 'Goodbye Retread Dance' yet...you might curse us." I was lucky enough to play 33 rounds this year. My guys trip was down to Myrtle Beach. Marriage hasnt been a killer to my golf game yet...maybe when we have kids (but not there yet!). Thanks for asking DoMe. How have you been feeling? Ellsbury waiving his NTC cant come soon enough. I will dance with Tequila when it happens.

Make sure you ask before you move in on her, or I'll have her bite your nose off (for starters)... Then the music stopped
When I looked the café was empty
Then I heard José say
"Man you know you're in trouble plenty"
So I dropped my drink from my hand
And through the window I ran
And as I rode away
I could hear her say to José, yeah
Come a little bit closer
You're my kind of man
So big and so strong
Come a little bit closer
I'm all alone
And the night is so long

I hope the rumour that were trading Torres for Cole is false. I don't even wanna trade Frazier for him.. Which is who Yankees are apparently floating..

Say it ain't so!!! I DON'T WANT COLE!!! At least they're saying Yankees won't include Torres or Florial... I just wish they also won't include Frazier and Sheffield.. they can have Chance Adams and reluctantly Andujar. I just don't see how Cole makes this team better...

I hope the rumour that were trading Torres for Cole is false. No way Cashman is that stupid. The report is that the Pirates want him. But that we're offering Frazier. The Post says: According to a person with knowledge of the talks the Yankees and Pirates will get “a deal done’’ that will drop Cole into The Bronx without sacrificing stud prospects Gleyber Torres and Estevan Florial. “When you bring up those two names to the Yankees the talks stop,’’ said an official with a team other than the Pirates that has been engaged with the Yankees. nypost.com/2017/12/21/yankees-moving-closer-to-trading-for-gerrit-cole/

Now there are reports that the Yanks are cautiously watching talks and the price of Yu Darvish. It's well known that if Ellsbury isn't dealt, Darvish cannot fit under the Luxury Cap...The question seems to be if Darvish can be had as cheap as $20M per year, or if the price is going to go upwards of $25M...A talented pitcher, but only 431 innings since 2014. That's sort of scary at those prices...But, no loss of talent in a trade...

Word on Cole is that the Yanks are offering Frazier and another piece, perhaps Acevedo...Appears Pittsburgh wants to move Cole, so if not to NY, he lands somewhere...

WE do NOT need or WANT Cole. He will just turn out to be another Garcia...how did that workout?
WE have good if not great pitchers in our Farm System: Want another pitcher = Call one of our Prospects up.
Someone has being doing Peyote; if they are thinking about trading TORRES. Tell the Pirates to go jump in the Three Rivers.
Ah, crap = There goes my blood pressure!!!
Tequila: "Do you have a WILL?"
