The all-time Minnesota / Washington franchise purchased the contract of Bucky Harris and assigned him to the manager position at AAA. (:
It wa determined thst with the extreme minor league depth the team has at second base, Harris would not get much playing time and that the team could utilize his skills in other ways.
Harris was a feisty second baseman with a light bat and good OBP skills who was a master of the HBP in his early career. He was a long time manager of the Washington frachise who, in spite of a losing career record is the all-time winningest manager in the history of the franchise. Besides. He married the owner’s daughter, so what else was I to do??? (:

Inger, I was trying to an all time best Yankee team but realized I don't have the historical baseball background to do it justice since I only started watching baseball in 1995. I will leave it up to the experts here to do it instead.

I do understand the difficulty of incorporating the old time players into the mix. I have to do that too, much of which requires some imagination and the experience of having read about former stars that played before I started watching regularly in 1963. So that means you have even 32 years less of watching. It's why I give a shout out to Utah as well. I don't know that I have the total package of experience and I know that any team I create won't be perfect. But my created rosters certainly aren't considered to be set in stone. Anyone could surely catch my errors and inform me of a player that I may leave off. I do fear that the final installment may not appear for another five years, but one never knows when I also might do two teams in a week if I find myself bored or stricken with mad insomnia...
Thanks for the attempt, kaybli. We all know what we enjoy or what we can confidently handle. If you wouldn't enjoy doing it or don't feel confident of the results, there is no reason to torture yourself...If we could have gotten jwild over here, he'd probably have played along. Certainly some of the old posters that disappeared a few years back, like banfoulballs, grandforks, and the irreplaceable pippsheadache would have played along...but times have changed...I hope all of those fellows are well and enjoying whatever they're doing today. Even if they're posting on that big heamyha in the sky...

Not even any Billy Martin... I have had to deal with Womack, Pavana, Kevin Brown, Meat-Tray, and the like.... You poor, poor pitiful thing. Those guys would have been stars on the late 60's to early 70's teams after the great collapse...Therefore Womack has only one meaning to you. We had Dooley Womack, further known in Jim Bouton's book, "Ball Four" as Dooley Womack... THE Dooley Womack??? Bouton got traded for Womack and was dreaming of the haul the team might have gotten for him when the news came back that it was Dooley... LOL...A middling at best relief pitcher...And off to Houston went Bouton... For infielders that could match Tony Womack, we had about six or seven guys that all played the same game. They can be represented by the great Celerino Sanchez. The Pavanos and Browns were matched by dozens of walking wounded (and sitting worse wounded) that couldn't get anyone out. Meat-Tray would have been a full time starter...Twenty losses? No problem, you had to be a good pitcher to lose twenty in those days. The manager had to trust you enough to keep sending you out there... (: Then of course, we also had the "prospects", who for the most part turned out to be suspects...What a period of baseball that was...

That is indeed a very frightening bunch of stiffs. You should look at B-R and just peruse the averages and ERA+ of the hitters and pitchers from 1965 to 1970, just to get a sense of the torture I felt as a little boy of eleven to sixteen. Defending my team from Oriole and even Phillies lovers was not easy...Living mid way between the two cities, we had lovers of each and lovers of both. There were a few Yankee lovers in the area, of course, but we were a rare breed...

These Cubs weren't easy for me. A lot of their bests were some real old timers that I had to struggle over to include or not. Also Sammy Sosa had to be dealt with...The team had a .513 lifetime win pct. at the start of 2018...
Starting Pitchers: Mordecai Brown, Pete Alexander, Hippo Vaughn, John Clarkson, Fergie Jenkins // AAA: Clark Griffith, Rick Reuschel, Carlos Zambrano, Bill Hutchinson, Charlie Root
Relief Pitchers: Bruce Sutter (closer), Lee Smith (Set up), remainder of pen: Carlos Marmol, Greg Maddux, Lon Warneke // AAA: From starting AAA group
C: Gabby Harnett, Jody Davis // AAA: Ray Hundley
1B: Cap Anson player/manager, Mark Grace // AAA: Frank Chance player/manager
2B: Ryan Sandberg, Billy Herman // AAA: Johnny Evers, Glenn Beckert
SS: Ernie Banks, Joe Tinker // AAA: Don Kessinger, Billy Jurges
3B: Ron Santo, Stan Hack // AAA: Vacant
LF: Billy Williams
CF: Hack Wilson
RF: Kiki Cuyler
Outfield Reserves: Andy Pafko (cf back up), Bill Nicholson // AAA: Riggs Stephenson, Sammy Sosa, Rick Monday
Notes: Pitching was really tough because so many of the selections came from a group that played a much different game in their time. The Cubs also for the most part have shuttled relievers in and out in a few brief years, making it tough to find five year vets to work with.
Frank Chance hit only 20 HR in his entire career, yet was in the HOF with a 139 OPS+. Dead ball era, dead stats. Anson was much better, Grace great with the glove...I was hoping I could move Ernie Banks to first base, where he played in his later years, as he was not a very rangy shortstop, but his bat won the job easily. I can see Tinker out there in the late innings a lot if the team can hold leads...If he messes up, I was close to choosing Kessinger. Real close...
Yeah, so Sammy Sosa. Yeah. So Sammy Sosa didn't fit in my plans because I make sure that there is at least one bench OF that can play CF to add a touch of realism. Settling for the bow-legged and often hung over Hack Wilson at 5-6 and imagining him chasing balls down in the gap was enough of a stretch, and once again I can see a lot of late inning work for the b/u CF, Andy Pafko. In RF I figured that if I wanted a power hitter I could use Nicholson and feed him the steroids if I must. In the end I chose Cuyler for his terrific overall skills and amazing throwing arm...with Nicholson heading to the bench where I felt Sosa would be a distraction...Take away his juice and send him to AAA to work on some things...There. I said it...
A note about the catching: Harnett had some serious numbers for his era. Jody Davis was probably a lot better defensive catcher than some realize...and had some nice pop for a couple of years to boot...
I don't care a lot for this team, and if no one argues any of the positions, I'll be a bit surprised. I'm conflicted enough myself...

So, Utah. Do you have any critique or input you can offer on this Cubs team? I’m especially interested in Kiki Cuyler, whom I’ve heard was an exceptional multi-tool player...Do you recall any stories from his career?...
