Nah, obviously those two would help, but this started back in like June. Idk, something is amiss. Running out of time to find it and things won't get any easier, six left vs. BOS and four games in Tampa. Could be looking at a road trip to end year that consists of Tampa, Boston, then out to Oakland or Houston for wild card. If lucky to win that, back to Boston to start five game series. Injuries. Coupled with some very odd managing. Once again. Yes. Nearly 100 wins, but for a team that appeared to be on pace for 110+ at one point. It’s certainly odd... The weird and massive slumps, at the plate. On the mound. On the bases. In the field.m, no less. And yes. I believe in the dugout, too. Tons of talent, something is indeed amiss...

This team has a very odd feel to it, idk what it is but it feels like there is just something missing. It's called "hitting." We routinely run out an outfield with a sub-.240 hitter at one corner and a sub-.250 hitter in center. Add in a sub-.200 hitter at both catcher and 1st base, and you're going to struggle to score if anybody else is slumping. And they all strike out a lot, too. Just hope a few of these bats get hot for the stretch, or we're not going anywhere. The pitching is not good enough to support an anemic offense.

Perhaps the way this team does it, we should add an "S" somewhere in that word, hitting...hmmm. Where to add it though. Any ideas???

I do want to be fair to Hicks though. He is still the second best ranked OF in the AL behind only Mike Trout, who is on another level completely. A few of Hicks rankings in the AL among CF according to ESPN's records:
Runs, 3rd...Hits...6th...2B...8th (though his 16 is puny next to Kevin Pillar's 37)...HR...2nd...RBI...1st (tie with Trout)...SB...9th...BB...2nd (30 behind Trout, but 24 ahead of Springer)...BA...6th (out of 7 qualifiers, so not good)...OBP...3rd...SLG...2nd...OPS...2nd...WAR...2nd...
So, while Hicks may not be a superstar, if he was one of our biggest problems this year, the Yankees would already have 100 wins...
None of this nullifies your point, Renfield. Too many low average sluggers that strike out way too much...We draw our share of BB, but when no one gets hits, the guys that BB wind up stranded, so they become empty offense...

In other news, at least the A's lost today.

The closest thing to Bartolo Colon since, well...Bartolo Colon. Yes. That was quite a sight. I told Ruthie that he reminded me of how in little league it was almost always the fat kid that was the catcher...

I have to believe there is a hot streak coming very soon. Well, it has to be coming very soon, because there ain't much left. There just seems to be an odd disconnect between the very good record this team has and the way they seem when you watch them play. Maybe just over-reacting to recent weeks, but the team has appeared lethargic and sloppy for long stretches. They may yet wind up winning the whole kit and caboodle, but at least to the eye they are not a fundamentally sound group compared to most successful Yankee teams.
