Here’s a really bad idea. Presumably this is Seattle floating this. I really enjoyed Cano when he was a Yankee and would have preferred that we had kept him but have no interest in trading for what’s left of his career and contract now. Terrible idea. Worst idea ever.

Worst idea ever. The 70+ million difference between Cano's contract and Ellsbury's could certainly be put to better use. No reason for the Yankees to pay for Cano's downward years, that's Seattle's problem.

"The Toe" is gone, for now.
New York Yankees Verified account @yankees 6m 6 minutes ago More The Yankees have claimed RHP Parker Bridwell off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels.
To make room on the 40-man roster, Ronald Torreyes has been DFA’d.

Maybe he’ll get some playing time somewhere else...

Damaged goods, damaged reputation. He wanted out, wanted the big bucks and the responsibility of having “his own team”. Seattle didn’t see through the facade and bought the merchandise. The only way I see a fit on the roster is if he plays first base or third base...and for the kind of bucks he costs we can do much better. If he came back, I’m sure the bat would still play well in Yankee Stadium...But now the lack of hustle and the smile would be a tired act...

Never cared for Donaldson, which probably means he’s a great team mate. He plays hard, and until playing injured this past year his numbers were really good. At 32, he’s in an age bracket that tends to begin serparating the men from the boys...I’m glad he wasn’t the Yanks solution to their third base “problem”...But he could be a big lift to a young team like Atlanta...

The Bucs dishing out some bucks. Chisenhall was very highly touted years ago, but he’s never shown the bat that was expected. He’s been pretty much a role player with a MLB average bat. After eight years in Cleveland it’ll be interesting to see if he’ll remain in limbo or can advance his career and gain more playing time...

After his return, Cano--at the plate-- looked like the same guy he's always been. On the field, he's definitely lost a step.. If the Mariners would throw in $20M and take Ellsbury, it'd be worth it. I think Cano is going to go .287/.410/.360 when he's 40...He's one of the best hitters in the game, still. I think he's, basically, Daniel Murphy with a better arm. It may be a "really bad idea." But I kinda like it. David Ortiz, Paul Molitor, and others, were good DHs till they were 40. Why not Cano? Heck, it ain't MY money.

He will almost certainly never be more than a spare part infielder, but he is a fun player and I wish him well. Bridwell pitched pretty well for the Angels in 2017 and at least has a shot at contributing something useful. Utility infielders are a little like backup quarterbacks in that they are easy to like unless you actually have to use them too much. Toe joins that long list with Miguel Cairo, Luis Sojo, Andy Fox, Clay Bellinger extending back to Larry Milbourne and Phil Linz. Fear the Toe.

Cano has never had an OBP close to .400, but .360 would be just a smidge higher than his career average.
