Stoopid waste of time to grade an off-season that’s ridiculously incomplete. The two best position players, the second best SP and one of the most accomplished RP in the game’s history are still unsigned along with about a good dozen very useful players...
The two biggest overpays at this point appear to be Eovaldi and Corbin...I don’t think that’s going to change...

Posada joining up with his buddy Jeter. Good to hear. Hopefully they can still be friends...Not going be easy to build a winner nor a loyal fan base down there...Tensions can grow...

Giants swooping in to land Harper would be an interesting development. I wouldnt be shocked and if its not the Yankees I wouldnt mind them being the ones to get him. MLB wont like having their two most marketable stars on the West coast though. Makes sense for them, even though it takes them from a bad team to a mediocre one. He makes more sense at the price he's seeking for a bad team with a marketing problem than he does for a good team that's already successfully marketing the product they have. It isn't an on the field production issue.

Apparently, Harper wont settle for a short term deal, according to this:
Even as he continues an already lengthy stay on the free agent market, star outfielder Bryce Harper is “not signing — or even considering — short-term deals,” according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network (Twitter link).
There has been some indication of late that some clubs may be pursuing Harper on less-than-lengthy contract terms. In particular, the Giants’ entry into the market for Harper seemed to raise the prospect of such an approach. By some accounts, at least, the San Francisco organization is not only a real potential suitor but is interested only in committing to Harper for a limited term.
Just where Harper and his camp are drawing the line isn’t clear. Regardless of the guaranteed term of an eventual contract, any deal is quite likely to come with complicated opt-in/opt-out arrangements, potentially including both club and player opportunities to lengthen or shorten the deal.
The parameters remain unclear. It does seem reasonable to conclude, though, that Harper won’t be amenable to offers premised on the idea of earning a big salary now while reentering the market at a still-youthful age. That possibility may well be contemplated in a contract, as noted above, but a longer background guarantee seems to be a necessary part of the picture as well.

In my world a one-year engorged contract would beat sitting out a year at no money and then maybe having to prove yourself all over again to get a multi-year deal at 28/29. Of course I’ve read that he was a ringer ball player being flown around the country at 10 years of age, so if his ego allows him to believe he’s Ruth or Mantle, I would suppose we should understand that. He’s not, though. At his best, he’s close. When that high-maintainance swing goes off the rails he has some long slumps. That seems to be a rather common issues these days with the whippet like swings...

Machado/Harper/ Keuchel/Kimbrel with apologies to Harry Nilsson:
I wanted to be (a) free agent That’s what I wanted to be But now that I am (a) free agent Nobody cares about me

They will get their money if not the years they want. Probably from here on out it won’t matter to players about landing on a winning or losing team as long as the money is right. They probably will not play hurt at all going forward and will inactivate themselves at the hint of injury. Just a few ways players can get back at “the man”. I think we are definitely headed for a shut down.

www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/report-padres-aggressive-with-offer-to-machado/ar-BBTw24f The San Diego Padres have been "very aggressive" with their offer for free-agent infielder Manny Machado, according to Andy Martino of SNY.
The assumption is Machado will accept the highest offer but is unsure if he wants to play for the Padres, according to Martino.
San Diego was among the later entrants in the sweepstakes for the 26-year-old, with reports of serious interest coming in January.
Meanwhile, some in Machado's camp are encouraging him to accept a shorter-term deal with the New York Yankees, Martino reports. READ MORE...

www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/opinion-trevor-bauers-radical-idea-on-mlb-contracts-could-benefit-everyone/ar-BBTBIwa I AGREE!!!
GOODYEAR, Ariz. — In one swoop Thursday morning, Trevor Bauer made the Cleveland Indians cringe, the unemployed free-agent class think and the players' union listen.
In addition to airing his grievances about the arbitration process and the “character assassination” he endured, Bauer presented his own radical idea for getting the money he believes he's worth.
As free agents have struggled to land long-term deals over the past two winters, the 28-year-old believes that signing only one-year contracts would make him affordable to all 30 teams, even with an annual price tag of at least $35 million.
“I’ll go year-to-year my entire career," said Bauer, who is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2020 season.
“Why would you lock yourself in a situation that may not make you happy? I think that’s highly inefficient. Everybody is afraid of risk. Everyone is scared.
“It’s still unproven how clubs feel about it, but looking at the market, and studying it, I identified for myself personally that it’s the best route to go forward."
Bauer figures that one-year contracts would be irresistible for all parties, particularly with the way the last two winters have gone.
“I think it solves a lot of problems in this day and age," he said, “which is [teams’ ] increased reliance on aging curves and projection of future performance. Baseball used to pay for what you’ve done, and baseball is now shifting to projecting that they’re going to do.
“It’s very similar to how major corporations are being run. I think that players have to find a way in that environment to still maximize their value." READ MORE...
