Not sure if this even means anything but I'll post it anyway.

Big time damage control by the Nats brain trust. Yankee fans are doing the same thing. I know I am. I do see both the positive and negative sides of Harper in NY. None of the positive side is about seeing him play in the OF, nor about the likelihood of a long term deal... Overall, I’m still anti-Harper and anti-Machado for the interlocking NY...

I keep seeing Phillies are the favorite, which is no different than its been for weeks, but also that a bunch of random teams are still technically in the mix. Im starting to think this saga (+ Machado) will never come to an end.

Maybe they will. After he grows up...A process that should be well on it's way by now, but it seems that's escaped Manny...

Im going to be very disappointed to not get Harper. I would take Machado if it meant him or neither (even though I think that makes far less sense) but feeling like itll be a disappointment on that front too.

To be clear, I still expect this to be a very good team who can contend for a title but they had a chance here to make the lineup really special and dont appear to have made a real effort.

I don't want either Harper or Machado especially to the long term contracts they want so it won't bother me when (as I think is certain) we get neither. I prefer to stick with players who came up through the Yankee system rather than free agents from other teams which IMHO have not worked well generally for the Yankees.

The Yanks have hit on more free agents than missed, noetsi. The problem is that it’s easier to remember the ends of their Yankee days than the best of days... Cc Reggie Catfish Giambi They’re great pieces of the team’s history...

Just to be clear, for all of the whining coming out of the agents for these two players and the MLBPA, the reason these guys haven't signed is by their choice. Harper had a 10 yr $300m offer from Washington at the start of free agency. The way these guys have been talking all offseason you'd think they're being oppressed.
Meanwhile, Philly is about to back up the truck so the candlelight vigil for Bryce Harper may finally be over.

Cc Reggie Catfish Giambi They’re great pieces of the team’s history... Mike Mussina, for my money, is the best free agent signing the Yankees ever made. Even though they got him after the prime of his career, he was just consistently great. Knowing now that the guy who won the Cy did so more through chemistry than ability, Moose should have won the award in the first year of his deal with the Yanks, which is pretty solid validation for a FA contract. If the Yanks had more postseason success during his tenure, I think he gets remembered very differently. Also don't forget Dave Winfield. He was great as a Yankee even factoring in the length and relative expense of his deal. And if not for the owner being batshit crazy to the point of breaking the law in the course of feuding with Winfield, maybe it ends better than it did.
