Who knew when you started this thread that the injury report would become such a big part of the story of this season? 103 pages of injury news! And very little of it involved my ass this year. For that, I thankful, but I would have happily suffered a second minor buttock pull for the use of Stanton’s bat all season...

Oddly, there was a considerable amount of good fortune in our injuries this season.
Bird? He cleared the way for Voit, who eventually cleared the way for Ford.
Didi? No real good fortune there, but we were able to watch the growth of Torres at the position. It also allowed DJ to get regular at bats early in the year by opening second base.
Tulo? See above...He got it over with early. It was inevitable...
Andujar? He was replaced by a hitter that did at least as well as he would have, plus played sterling defense.
Stanton? No real silver linings here, but the Tauchman discovery may not have happened if not for his absence, and we were fortunate that Gardner didn’t simply languish on the bench.
Hicks: See above as well. Helped make room for Maybin. Allowed us to see that Gardner still has the chops for CF, and Tauchman nor Maybin embarrassed filling in.
Judge: Really hard to find an upside to his missed time. The least replaceable player on the team.
Sanchez: Romine’s best season ever saved the day.
CC: Innings automatically reduced and cleared the way for German
Severino: Like Judge, no real upside to losing our best pitcher.
German: We found out he’s an ass...

This time, Stanton is nursing a right quad strain that occurred on his first at-bat Saturday, manager Aaron Boone said before Sunday’s game. Stanton is listed day-to-day and may be available to return for Game 3 of the ALCS, which will be played Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.

Maybe so, but his experience with injuries this year does not inspire confidence. This is his third different injury this year, plus his rehab injury which I have lost track of.

When he beat out the throw I was like "I bet he got hurt.... oh wow, he can run and not get hurt" Against the Twins there was a couple ground balls he didn't beat out and it looked like he was being cautious...

We played 144 games without Stanton this season, so I think we can do okay without him now. There where signs he wasn’t fully healthy and ready to play all ready. A bit of hinky play on the field, some less than energetic base-running. It’s all good having him as a pinch hitter...
