inger..……….take a look at Tommy Holmes in 1945....I remember him having a big year, and although he was good other years, not like that... Whoa, Utah nails it. 175 to 128. We are not worthy.

Yes, he did. We now have a viable RF. +37 season, and a + 53 career. Plus, without posting all the stats, we can quickly look them up. So, that will save my thumb. Great memory, Utah!

I can give us at least a viable backup OF that could play all three OF positions in Tito Francona. 171 in... dang, forgot the year when he hit .363... Like Gentile, he was coming into his own that year and started getting AB. The next year he was in almost every game and had a 127, for a plus 44 season.
He had a 140 season late in his career, but was a 200-Something AB guy off the bench. Can’t count that against him...

Gentile was not only a dangerous hitter, but one of the slickest fielding first basemen I was ever able to see....really slick..

Cheater alert! Boy, that was a big deal back then. The corked bat was like steroids in 2000... I would still think that with Mantle and Maris bashing. Plus Gentile and several others with huge years, that the expansion pitchers helped him more than the bat... I recall reading a hitter’s comment once that the cork did more for his confidence than what he felt it actually did to the bat-on-ball action... Nice note, desousa!...

It’s that same lack of confidence that led them to cheat in the first place.

I have read that physically a corked bat should actually be less useful than a normal one. Maybe its about confidence. "It has been a popular belief that the material used to cork a bat creates a "trampoline effect," causing a ball hit with a corked bat to travel farther than one hit with an uncorked bat. Research has shown this not to be the case.[3] Another perceived advantage of using a corked bat is its effect on the bat's weight. Corking a bat causes the bat to be lighter, which in turn allows the batter to swing it more quickly. However, the reduction in weight negatively affects the velocity of the ball as it leaves the bat, effectively cancelling out the advantage gained from a quicker bat speed.[5]. A lighter bat can, however, create an advantage by allowing the batter to delay a swing for a fraction of a second, which would allow for more accuracy.[5]" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corked_bat
