Just because it is you and me talking I am going to guess 36 Chambers. What's funny about this is I was just thinking today about whether a record I was listening to was or wasn't my favorite of all time. It is either #1 or #2. Don't think you'd guess it. [img alt=" " src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/udcwFqPimnXDtjoTmoVL.gif" class="smile"] You got it! 36 Chambers all the way!
Your favorite? I'm going to guess maybe the White Album? Probably not. That's too obvious.
That's either #1 or #2. The record I was listening to today was London Calling. It is so great and listening to it now, with so many bands that have copied it, been influenced by it, or been influenced by bands that were influenced by it, it is hard to put it into context. It is a complete mindfuck of a record that made almost no sense at the time on first listen. RS loves Sgt Pepper, I think only people who lived through Sgt Pepper or Pet Sounds really appreciate them in that way. London Calling is that for me - it disrupted both popular rock like Zeppelin and punk rock with something completely out of nowhere, and it all still holds up. All that said, the White Album is also incredible, and the reissue last year is amazing, especially the Esher Tapes.

I find favorite songs and albums change list positions with age and experience. It’s always interesting to review albums twenty and thirty years later. Like visiting old friends.

I just know the title track, Lost in the Supermarket, and Clampdown.
I'm curious to other posters favorite albums.

I appreciate both of the albums I mentioned more now that I am older. Others I loved before don't do much for me now. Interesting.

Rumours should be in anyone’s record collection. I am not exactly a Fleetwood Mac fanatic. They had some fine tunes, but Rumours is a classic album.

London Calling was a watershed album. A must in any record collection.

The Clash are special to me. They were influenced by a lot of music that mattered to me like Elvis and rockabilly and reggae and they personally influenced new bands (The Pretenders, The Replacements, Pearl Jam, RHCP...) who grew a lineage of other bands (Deer Tick...) who made a lot of music that matters to me. And they did it in a short amount of time and then flamed out. That "only band that matters" thing was record company marketing, but for a while it sort of was true.

What would you say is your favorite album right now, rizzuto? Not sure I have any favorite album per se. I vacillate from genre to genre, depending on my mood and setting. Many of my favorite artists are singer-songwriters, who weren’t readily heard on the radio. One interesting thing though...the older I get, the higher Led Zeppelin climbs my favorites list. I enjoy them more now in my fifties than I did in my teens. Not sure that’s common but it’s certainly true for me.

A great song and one of the few written by their drummer who came up with the riff on the piano.

I have so many favorite songs and favorite albums that I’d have trouble separating #1 from #50. Most of mine probably would leave you guys scratching your heads because I’m not as big on bands as I am on singer songwriters and solo artists, and some of what used to be my “rock” is now considered to be folk music...
I’d hate to do any song a disservice by NOT putting it near the top because on any given day, it may sit there...I started listening to albums more as an adult due to our financial situation when I was a kid. My family kept trying to push country down my throat, and that's back when it was nasally and twangy. Sadly, with mom dominating the TV I was heavily exposed to Perry Como and Lawrence Welk. Even worse was Larry Ferrari, an organ player that she just adored...
And now the luffly Lennon-a-Sisters will sing-a, “I can’t-a Get No-a-Satis-a-Faction-a”.
Lol, I was just remembering when Dominque, the singing Nun’s record came out. No one in the family understood a word of it, and all but me thought it was terrific...Course, maw was French (Canadian)...She did know the cuss words pretty well...
