Didn't Jerry Lee Lewis marry a cousin who was underaged? Yep. She was 13 I believe. He disappeared from the airwaves immediately, although he later had a comeback as a country and western performer. Well, she was Winona Ryder so can't blame him. Great Balls of Fire!

Great Balls of Fire! Ryder was born in 1971, Lewis was married to his cousin Myra Lee Brown… Yes, I realize you were talking about the movie, but… Yikes! …

Like Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford, Yellowstone and Grand Canyon will always be one-two for me. But they're all great. In May we're headed to Great Smokey Mountains NP, which is of course the MOST visited because it's near so many population centers. But we haven't been in awhile, and it's still a beautiful place, we are avoiding Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, and I am sure like you we know how to minimize crowd intrusion. It helps if you naturally are up and about by 5 AM as we are. My wife is from Chicago…oldest son and most of her family still live in the upper Midwest, so we’re usually back there once a year. I try to include visits to interesting places when we’re there…Voyageurs NP, Door County, Apostle Islands, etc. We actually had a very enjoyable time during a quick stopover in Wisconsin Dells which has all the tourist trap attractions, much like Lake George, NY. But the boat tour up the Wisconsin River to the Upper Dells, which includes Witches Gulch, was very interesting. Absolutely beautiful. We’ve visited most of the National Parks in the West, including the “Big 5” in Utah. The drive from Bryce Canyon NP to Capitol Reef NP thru Grand Staircase-Escalante NM is better than many National Parks. Don’t know if you’ve had the chance to visit Chiricahua NM here. Beautiful place…word is it’s on track to become the next National Park. I prefer to avoid the interstates on our annual summer road trip to Colorado…stay off the beaten path whenever possible and visit places on the way up & back. This year we’ll be heading up from Santa Fe on the “high road” to Taos, visiting El Santuario de Chimayo along the way. The return trip will be thru Utah, with a stop in Cedar Breaks NM then down Rte 89A thru Vermillion Cliffs to Marble Canyon. I’ve been saving Carlsbad/Guadalupe for one of those trips...maybe next year.

Sweet and Innocent talks about how the girl is too young for the singer and implores her to come back when she's older. Of course, the singer was a 12 year old Donnie Osmond. I'm thinking "Don't Stand So Close To Me" by The Police was going there. "Jailbait" by Ted Nugent. The Stones had one called "Stray Cat Blues" that seemed to suggest some illicit emotions. What about "I Saw Her Standing There" by The Beatles? "She was just seventeen -- you know what I mean." Is Paul winking at us when he says that? Really? I think “Don’t Stand” was very blatant although the singer was trying to resist his protagonist, it was quite a struggle for him… And yeah, Paul. Yeah, yeah, yeah…

My wife and I are Frank Lloyd Wright enthusiasts, so we also visited his home and studio Taliesen up that way. Yep, we've been to Chiricahua/Fort Bowie/Cochise Stronghold in that region, also wonderful as is most of Arizona in my book. An out-of-the-way national park we enjoyed there was Organ Pipe Cactus NP. On the way to Nowhere. We lived in Santa Fe and that's a cool trip you have before you. We always took visitors to Taos/Rancho de Taos. Chimayo is a must-see. Also up that way if you are so inclined is the Georgia O'Keeffe home and studio in Abiquiu. She did most of her painting in that area and it's full of great rock formations and caves. Since you like out of the way drives, you might prefer taking the Turquoise Trail (Route 14) between Albuquerque and Santa Fe if you're going up that way. The back way between the two. It's got several old mining towns and doesn't take a whole lot longer than Interstate 25. Yeah, Utah is like one big national park. A favorite very remote spot of mine there is Promontory Point, where they drove the Golden Spike linking the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads. You definitely have to want to go there, but it's worth it.

Been to Organ Pipe NP…stayed in Ajo at Sonoran Desert Inn, a very cool hotel converted from a school. An interesting little town. There’s a massive open pit mine there (New Cornelia) among several other interesting sights. South of Ajo thru the “town” of Why is the border crossing of Lukeville, which was recently shut down but has since been reopened. That’s where Arizonans cross into Mexico on their way to Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco). We’ve driven the Turquoise Trail, taken the road up to Sandia Crest then back thru Madrid to Santa Fe. Much better than I-25.

Well, I was in the mood for a melody, but instead what I got was a Heidi Bowl flashback.
Looks like a decision was made at CBS to air the local news instead of showing the rest of the Billy Joel concert. Joel was singing Piano Man and the next thing I knew while Joel was still singing, a commercial came on TV. I thought it was a mistake and CBS would show the rest of the concert. Instead the CBS local news came on.
Anyone out west watch the Billy Joel concert last night? Can you tell me please how the concert ended? What other songs if any did Billy Joel sing after the Piano Man?

I believe Piano Man was the last song but cut off for everyone. But the Billy Joel discussion can continue in this thread to make it easier for everyone.

Thanks for the list, Chi. I suspected much was amiss while we watched. They shouldn’t lure people in thinking they’ll be watching a “concert” and then cover half of it up with commercials. Yanks my crank but good.
It would have been much better with the entirety shown.
As for Billy and his group, they did well. But… CBS pulled a fast one on us. Come watch a shit ton of commercials with a few Billy Joel and Sting songs in between them, and don’t expect the finale to be complete because it runs out of the allotted time due to our stupid mismanagement of such time…

I have to say, Joel's backup singer Crystal Taliefero has a great voice. Loved the way she sang "River Deep, Mountain High".

I'll let you know when I watch it later.
