I see them as 2 different songs...like "Spooky' (Classics IV / ARS). Like 'em both. i With covers you always have to credit the original with providing the inspiration. Another one was Tom Waites/Rod Stewart’s “Downtown Train”. I like both of those, too. But Stewart turned it into a hit…at first I couldn’t stand the Waites version, but it grew on me. I watched a Stewart interview where he said that the first time he heard it he could hear the melody in his head. He’s a musical genius… How about the Tom Waites/Bruce Springsteen "Jersey Girl". I like Waites version.

Alright, don’t laugh at me…but… I sold my 30th Anniversary Remastered Metallica Black Album Vinyl on eBay (because it’s not even my favorite Metallica album, Master Of Puppets is and I own it on vinyl) in exchange so I could preorder the 25th Anniversary Creed Human Clay Remastered Deluxe Edition on Vinyl. I still love Creed and Human Clay and Mark Tremonti’s guitar work is excellent on this album and some of the songs like Inside Us All. There are several tracks on it that I still love to listen to this day like the track I just mentioned as well like Beautiful, Say I, Wrong Way, Faceless Man and Never Die. I also still love Higher and will stay on a station in the car whenever it is playing on the radio. IMO, Human Clay aged better My Own Prison (and of course Weathered). But I liked a lot of the rock music that came out around that time like Linkin Park and System Of A Down (although those two bands are of course nothing like Creed and are much much heavier and they are Nu-Metal). But, I'm sure a lot of people here much much older than me probably shake their heads at that kind of music and look back at it in disgust LMFAO. I like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. They started earlier in the decade than Creed, but Pearl Jam is still going strong. I also miss shopping for LP's, there's just not that many record stores anymore, Amazon has put them out of business.

I know Bob Seger said over 40 years ago but it rings true today: "Today's music ain't got the same soul, still like that old time Rock and Roll!"

Being a huge Byrds fan (pre-Gram Parsons) Gin Blossoms was one of my favorites of the era, along with Collective Soul. I actually literally ran into Eddie Vedder at a Denny's after Pearl Jam played Red Rocks. Seemed like a really good guy...I'm sure you know he's a huge Cubs fan.

Yeah, naturally I like those bands too and Creed was obviously my gateway to those bands you mentioned as well as to music that is much more critically acclaimed and well-regarded. Pearl Jam, I like…but there are some things I like about Creed better like I think Scott Stapp’s voice and what he is singing is easier to understand than when Eddie Vedder is singing and plus I feel Creed did hard rock and more radio-friendly rock like ballads better than Pearl Jam. But, I’ve never quite got why people felt and continue to feel the need to compare the two bands or say that Creed was a Pearl Jam-rip-off when the two bands could not be more different on the musical spectrum and they couldn’t be more different philosophically-wise. Creed embraced rock stardom and the fame (and paid the price for it) while Pearl Jam didn’t, they chose to go their own different path musically which is fine. Believe it or not though, my musical tastes in rock and music in general is kind of random and all over the place as I like everything from grunge to the Post-Grunge I grew up with to metal like Iron Maiden, Megadeth and Metallica to Late-90’s/Early-2000’s bubblegum pop music to some Classic Rock like The Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith or Kiss to the Dave Matthews Band to even artists like some of Cher‘s music or Fiona Apple.

"With a Little Help from My Friends" which version do you like? The original with the Beatles or the cover version with Joe Cocker? Cocker's version, largely due to its use in the opening of "The Wonder Years", which was one of my favorite shows as a lad.

I'm the same way. You'll find my Neil Young and Led Zeppelin records right next to Billy Joel. And there's some Iron Maiden & Afghan Whigs right next to Jazz greats, like Coltrane. That's what's so great about music. By the way, Pear Jam is playing Wrigley Field at the end of this month, if anyone is interested.

How about the Tom Waites/Bruce Springsteen "Jersey Girl". I like Waites version. Waites is an acquired taste that I have acquired… I introduced a friend to Waites's "Jersey Girl" and they preferred Springsteen's because they weren't impressed with Waites's voice. I responded, "and Springsteen's voice does impress you?" I am a NJ guy and have heard Springsteen my whole life, his voice is no more than average at best.

Take away the music, it wouldn’t be pleasant…
