I LOVE WATCHING CLOSE GAMES LIKE THIS ONE OVER BLOW-OUTS. FOR EVERY PITCH, HIT, BATTER, MGR. MOVE BECOMNS CRITICAL.I honestly thought the Yanks had it, in the top of the 6th.
So, we go another year with NO WS RING – The only rings we have this year are the rings in our toilets.Well at least I won some $$$ = Might use for the upcoming Master’s.
WHAT DID WE EXPECT = MGR.’S MOVES = OUR PROBLEMS YEAR IN YEAR OUT, ETC. PLUS, TB DID WIN THE DIVISION, etc. etc. etc. (NO we cannot blame this on injuries = TB had more injuries to their BP and still moved on).
I copied below some of you all postings and I agree with all!!!
--And, they had more injuries to their bullpen than we did! It’s amazing the bullpen they have.
--Voit trying to hit a home run. Why can't we just get hits instead if swinging for the fence
--What possible strategy could be involved in taking Higgy out and worse hitting Mike Ford for him. I don’t get it
--Hicks is so one dimensional from the left side, nothing but pull happy.
--Such a dumb move. If you want to pinch hit, use Frazier!
--FoRdS a LeFtY tHo?!?!
who cares. He can't hit lefty or righty pitchers.
WHERE WE WENT WRONG:--Should have left Cole in for at least 5 more outs--would have meant Britton not Chapman would have been pitching in 9th.
--We had the chance to Blow the game away top of 6th but DIDN’T.
--Still way too much Swinging Away for The Fences
--Still cannot hit to the opposing field to beat the Shift and get runners on base
--WHY? WHY? WHY? Pull Higgy for FORD who did nothing this season and these play-offs—Should have left Higgy in.
--With Higgy out, we brought in
“Call a Fast Ball Sanchez” and the rest is history.
--No hits & runs during series & hardly any stealing or bunting =
JUST SWING AWAY.--10-10-20:
www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/rays-end-yankees-season-with-a-late-homer-in-game-5/ar-BB19SL9J?li=BBnb7Kz Entering the series, the Yankees, whose payroll is nearly four times bigger than that of the Rays, poked fun at their underdog status.
The two teams — whose rivalry over the past few years has featured hit batters, heated words, bench-clearing skirmishes and suspensions — were awkwardly staying at the same hotel in the San Diego area this week as part of Major League Baseball’s controlled environment for the playoffs amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The series victory continued the Rays’ dominance of the Yankees this year. The Yankees, the fifth seed in the playoffs, lost eight of their 10 regular-season meetings, and the A.L. East title, to the top-seeded Rays. They fell behind two games to one in this best-of-five series after their pitching strategy backfired and their starting pitchers sputtered.
The Yankees won on Thursday to force a Game 5, for which Cole, who led the Yankees to victory in Game 1 on Monday, agreed to start on short rest for the first time in his career.
Aaron Judge, who was 3 for 27 this postseason entering Friday, staked the Yankees to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on Friday with a solo blast off the Rays’ stellar reliever, Nick Anderson, who had allowed only one home run all year. The Yankees could muster little else against the revolving door of stout Rays pitchers, led by Tyler Glasnow, who started on two days’ rest.
Cole, pumping 98 mile-per-hour fastballs and wicked breaking balls, did not allow his first hit until the fifth inning. But, unfortunately for the Yankees, the hit was a home run by Rays right fielder Austin Meadows, tying the game at 1-1.
In the sixth inning, Brett Gardner saved Cole from another home run when he nonchalantly robbed Rays slugger Randy Arozarena of one at the left field wall. Yankees Manager Aaron Boone then removed Cole, who finished with nine strikeouts, and turned the game over to his best relievers, including Chapman.
But when it mattered most, the Yankees, once again, could not beat their frequent foe.
