Ridings is on the DL, but there are others who could make this team better. What a horrible game, I'm glad I missed it. Not another one. Can’t anyone play this game without going the IL during the season? The history of the DL/IL is rather interesting. Although there was a rudimentary form of the DL as far back as 1915, it wasn't until 1941 that anything resembling what we have now came into being. At that point, teams were limited to two players at a time on the DL, and it had to be for 60 days. So you had to be seriously injured. This was lowered to 30 days in 1950, but still only two players at a time. If more than two were hurt, you either played short-handed while they recovered, cut them, or have them play through it. In 1966, the 15-day DL was introduced. Somewhere in that time frame, a three-tier system was established. A team was allowed to have two players on the 15-day DL, only one of which could be a pitcher; three players on the 21-day DL; and two players on the 30-day DL. It seems hard to believe now, but this system was in effect until August 1990. At that point limits on the number of players were dropped. Even though it's obvious just from personal memory, players simply did not go on the IL nearly as often even a generation ago. It would have been physically impossible to field a major league team under the old rules if players were injured as frequently as they are today. Imagine today's Yankees-- or any team for that matter-- trying to function under the system in effect when Mattingly and Winfield and Henderson were playing. Let alone the system when Mantle, Ford, Berra et al were active.

In the post game interview he said he was trying to find a grip for the ball because it was wet. That was his excuse. He did say the play was a mistake and has to be made. Well, that would be better than him just not paying attention to what was going on. Gleyber should have had two errors today since Sanchez was given one on a throw down to second that Gleyber just didn't catch. Squiddy would have made at least one of those plays. Wade probably both of them. But Squiddy and Wade don’t get to play just because they’re healthy again because they didn’t hit 38 HR two years ago…with a juiced ball and a strange feast off Baltimore pitching, which like all the rest of Torres batting exploits, is apparently over…

I just saw it, having missed it earlier, and Can you or somebody post it? I'd like to see it. You think you’d like to see it. Then you see it, and you don’t like it…

Imagine today's Yankees-- or any team for that matter-- trying to function under the system in effect when Mattingly and Winfield and Henderson were playing. Let alone the system when Mantle, Ford, Berra et al were active. We’re evolving into a species wherein the common booboo has become more than a bandaid and maybe a little anti-septic spray. When the reptillians actually decide to complete the takeover their tough, leathery skin is going to give them a huge advantage. Only the Komodo Dragons and crocodillians are going to be able to put up a decent resistance. Which makes me wonder why alligatorillian is not a real word. Ah, baseball and disability. Disability and baseball. Not allowed to block the plate any more. No sticky stuff on the ball but spray a full can one the bat handle if you will. The same thing with spit. Never on the ball, but if you want to spit on your hands while batting, it’s gross but Lee go. I guess the disability list is a microcosm of the world. It’s softer, gentler… Muscle is not so much formed by work, as in Mantle’s day and mine. It’s sculpted in a gym. It’s not sculpted of durable material, it not longer translates to practical activity…

Late last I heard some thunder How far off I sat and wondered I was humming A song From 1962 Working on my night moves We just don’t seem To have as much to lose Working on Our Night Moves (Ah-ah) Night Moves…
