Say what you will about Boone, but our players will be rested and fresh for their Saturday tee times. I always liked Monday golf. The golfers were mostly at home, all golfed out from the weekend. One could move about the course much more freely, and play at a more reasonable rate (Damn, I’m so tight, does anyone else care about that?)… it wasn’t uncommon for myself and a partner to complete 18 holes in 2 hours or less compared to the “leisurely” 4.5 hour week end pace. Yes, Boonie is certainly good for his troops golf game, no doubt…

When all is said and done, I expect Boone and Cashman will be back next year. Marcus Thames, not so much.

If he’s on the course, I’m expecting a lot of balls to be hitting other golfers. “I didn’t yell “fore” because I was waiting to see if the ball hit you”, Gleyber said… “I didn’t want to be charged with a fore if I didn’t have to”!

I got excited along with others at the mid-season win streak, but this was and is a flawed team. That's on Cashman, and he should pay with his job. Having a flawed team like this in the Bronx is not enough, apparently. The Yankees had one of the arguably poorest managers ever, by anyone, in terms of game decisions. If these two bumblers can keep their jobs, there is no hope for Yankee fans.

That’s a bad omen. If Boone comes back, that's a sure sign the Yankees don't prioritize winning.

Joel Sherman says educated guess is Boone will return , but have to redo his coaching staff:
Sherman is as glued into the Cashman FO more than any on the NYY beat. My quip with that notion above is the fact that most of the coaching staff aren't even Boone hires, they're organizational hires. I think only Nevin was brought in by Boone. Thames and PJ were in Yanks minor leagues, same with Willits and Mendoza. Harkey has been here since Girardi days. Blake came from CLE as an analytics hire by front office. The clear question for me isn't should Boone stay or go, it's how did the decision making process lead us to this quick of a regression from the 17 and 19 ALCS appearances? All these players are still in their prime and have had postseason and all-star success. What happened and who is at fault for that dip? It'd be easy for the FO and ownership to lay the blame on Boone, which they may or may not do. But there seems to be a lingering issue that's deeper the last two years. How does it get resolved?

It would not surprise me, especially after Hal’s putting the onus squarely on the players for underperforming during the losing streak. Things like not hustling to first base, leading the league in outs on the bases for essentially a station to station club, and the mental mistakes on routine plays - and this wasn’t the first year of these problems - fall on the coaching staff to correct.

They can't hit to save their life. That has nothing to do with hustle.

They can't hit to save their life. That has nothing to do with hustle. Not true. Hustling to first by the way is tantamount to success when bunting for a hit… or avoiding those double plays you complained about often. Hustling, and not the false hustle of Pete Rose, is one important skill needed to make a team more mindful of their game and lighting a fire under the entire team…
