Damn, I should have said HE said: "I'm afraid if I don't use you, you'll lose your stuff"...
First write is not always the right write...

The two NY Post stories this morning kind of foreshadowed that this was going to happen. Sherman was trying to look like he was guessing, but King was strongly insinuating that they were done because the meeting was scheduled for today, but the Yanks had not asked MLB for permission to make an important announcement.

Never fear. The actual binder that Joe used is the property of the New York Yankees. We will be just fine...
If I had to guess this minute, I would guess that Tony Pena will emerge as the leading candidate...

I think the Yankees will be fine if Cashman is the one making the final decision on the new manager. If Levine or Trost get involved, all bets are off!

Thanks for Yankee service Joe. I'm not sad to see him go, but he'll have no trouble finding a new job.

All I'll say is this:
We better find someone better. Cashman said they want someone that knows the clubhouse. Sounds like it will be Tony Pena or Rothschild if that is the case and I'm not sure I like either hire.

I for one am happy to see him go. 10 years, mostly underwhelming results. Like Alabama football... you can put any numbnuts in there and win with the Yankees. The key is finding a Nick Saban type manager that not only wins, but dominates. I think this current squad can be at or near the top of the AL for the next 5 years. Having someone competent to lead them can result in an elusive WS championship.

How can anyone say most underwhelming results? Most of his 10 years resulted in his team's overachieving. After 2012 he had 5 straight seasons of overachieving with old, aging, unathletic and VERY injured rosters.

We better not hire Don Mattingly.

We better not hire Don Mattingly. I agree with that. Not that I think Mattingly is bad, but I don't think it's a good fit right now for either side. I'd inquire about Bud Black.

I dont think thats a very good comparison...Alabama put in a bunch of different numbnuts who couldnt win for a decade before getting Nick Saban.
