I was in Breckinridge on a business trip once in winter. The client said that the business people in town all hoped for 3-4” every night to keep everything clean and pristine looking. The he said they actually bother measuring inches. They only count it when it’s in feet… 😂 daily powder is the "fantasy". of course that's not reality. but sometimes you get lucky. just got back from a trip to beaver creek about 2 weeks ago. we got snow 5 of the 6 days - just under 3 ft worth. at killington, my home resort, we got over 8 ft since march 15. at this time of the year, with the sun high in the sky and warmer nights, it melts quickly.
You mentioned Beaver Creek a week or so ago and I meant to follow up and ask you where that is. Not being a skier, I’m clueless. It sounded like you were saying it was in my neck of (or near the neck) of the woods… The closest skiing to here that I’m aware of is Monarch or Wolf Creek. Probably Wolf Creek…

I've played fastpitch softball tourneys in snowfall in July in Leadville. Skied A-Basin in June... conditions permitting, planning to go to mammoth mtn for july 4. friends went last year said it was a hoot. we've skied on june 1 at killington, 4 of the last 7 seasons. not sure about this season. have summer skied in chile and new zealand.
Wow...Chile & New Zealand. You're obviously very serious. Didn't know you could ski Killington or Mammoth that late. I'm guessing pretty icey at Killington...yes? A Hwy 395 road trip up the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada is on my list, with a stop in Mammoth. Hopefully next June. Took an unplanned drive over Loveland Pass past A-Basin/Keystone into Silverthorne last year...courtesy a car fire in the Eisenhower Tunnel. We were one car away from entering the tunnel when it was closed. Our car is second in line in the right lane, obscured by the yellow semi cab in this pic. Thankfully we were stopped before entering the tunnel...

at this time of the year, killington's not icey at all. and if it is, most days softens up quickly. in fact from here til the end of the season is my favorite time to ski. bumps are out in full bloom.
mammoth closed august 6 last year. currently announcing memorial day as the close. at killington last year june 1. don't think we make that this year.

The black smoke coming out of the vents was unreal. Luckily was able to U-Turn and take the Loveland Pass exit...which is fine at that time of year. Killington...is "slushy" a better way to describe conditions? Of the 8 years I spent in The Adirondacks I was only able to ski Gore Mountain a few times. Reminiscent of Loveland Ski.
