Yankees had been playing way, way over their heads. Mariners are not the White Sox. Yankees are getting swept in this series. Mariners are the better team despite the comparative records to this point. Yankees will be coming back to earth with a resounding thus after this game. Count on it. Worry about tomorrow's lineup, Mr. Servais.

We got 12 hits, they committed 2 errors and walked us 4 times. Need more runs from that but yeah, super bad. Holmes just used up his free pass.

I believe this is the first troll from another team in this board's history. Surely you can do better than this. I mean, it's certainly possible the M's could sweep this series. You know, momentums swings, hot streaks end, cold streaks start... In baseball, just about anything's possible, expectations for any one game are never that certain. But if I were to bet I know I wouldn't bet on a Seattle sweep.

And a big touch of Gleyber… Holmes: 0.2 IP / 4H / 2BB / 4 ER Walks hurt but the line is very misleading. 3 of the 4 hits he made a good pitch, got weak contact but balls were either perfectly placed or Yankees failed to make a play. IMO, it was more bad luck than bad pitching.

Even worse, Yanks don't have Holmes tomorrow because he's pitched back to back days, and 3 out of 4, and now have to worry if this blown save starts one of his crisis of confidence slumps that he goes through once or twice a year. Game 2 is tomorrow at 7:07 on YES, Bryan Woo vs. Clarke Schmidt. OK, going to check notifications now. That's what I'm wary of as well and why I'm not quite sold on him as a closer yet. Was it 2 years ago he started out like a house afire then imploded for about 2 months. Hope that's not the case this year. Guy's got filthy stuff.

He has a couple of these every season, usually in the middle of one of his "loss of confidence" streaks, where his loses his release point, the stuff degrades and his command seems lost forever. And then he snaps back with no reason or warning.

The other thing is that there's no clear "heir apparent" now, either. In past years, the Yanks knew who they were going to if they had to take Holmes out of the role. Who would it be now? Weaver? Burdi? Ferguson?

Holmes: 0.2 IP / 4H / 2BB / 4 ER I'll leave it to others to create hypothetical scenarios.

the gleyber play was a hit. should've held the ball but in the heat of the battle and gleyber being gleyber, he tries to make the play. also the ump ducked under the throw. not sure if that threw him off a bit.
that was followed by the blooper. thought it was catchable. looked like both judge and soto pulled up. that was followed by 2 hard hit balls that would have at least tied the game.
in any case, a very ugly outcome that should have been in the win column.

Bottom line they gotta limit the damage they didn't. They gotta score more when they get 12 hits they didn't. Holmes def part of the problem but team loss overall here.

during the course of a season, there are gonna be games like this. you just move on to the next one.
