Hanging cutter near middle, hit high and deep to right, Soto goes back to the track, then must move several steps to his left late, but catches, 2 down. Wind saved Schmidt there.

Backs the sinker onto the high outside corner, Torres flummoxed, ꓘ, 1 down, and unlike Volpe's ꓘ, that one was legit. 50/50 on Gameday.

Somehow Bethancourt came into this game hitting .384 as a Cub. Small sample size, but still surprising. |

Busch goes after a sinker on the corner away, centers it, but off the end of the bat, the grounder goes right to Volpe on the left side of 2nd, he goes to a knee to make sure, gets up and throws a strike to Rizzo to end the inning.
Top 4, 1-0 Yanks.
Not a 1-2-3, but still a good inning for Schmidt; 11 pitches and 48 through 3.
Wells, Stanton and Chisholm for the Yanks in the 4th inning.
