I have been thinking about that, and while memories of Shane remain with us, I think there is a difference....Shane hit the big flies that we remember...but he had mostly soft outs as I recall when not hitting the home runs....Voit seems more consistent in squaring up the baseball...even the ground out his first time up tonight was hit hard....I think he is a better hitter than Shane was....and, of course that remains to be seen over the longer term... Voit is also naturally patient at the plate, as well. He’s going to look for a pitch he can handle... in his most recent AB, the pitcher threw 2 quick strikes...then two nasty breaking balls that were off the plate....Voit looked so comfortable in taking those...he is obviously seeing the ball well....the next pitch was a fastball to his ribs....intentional?...probably not with him leading off an inning... |

Not trying to sound greedy here but between the twins and jays they really need to win 5 of 6 considering 6 of the last 13 are against the Red Sox. Hopefully the Red Sox will just be coasting by the time we hit that last series and won't put up much of a fight. |

Good move, Aaron... yeah...no way to prove it, but did those weak lineups earlier in the season really rest players so that they are better now? I go more for the conventional philosophy that every game is important, and with exceptions on the use of pitchers...go for the win today, and take care of tomorrow when it comes.... |

Is Flatherty for real congratulating the players for not giving away at bats? The yankees are in no position to just write off a game.

It used to be commonplace for teams to fight for every pitch. Is it still that way? I dunno...Too many players now get away with jogging to first base...Boone making nonsense lineups. It can be perhaps difficult to believe that you can come back in games like this. Yet look now. If one of our players can hit a grand slam hope returns. To be honest, i’d Rather we get the runs by stringing hits together than one swing... |

If professional baseball were your career, would EVER give away an at-bat?.....I would not...you get maybe 5 AB's a game...maybe 20 pitches....you cannot bear down for 20 pitches a game?....the comment tells me Flatherty has taken AB's off or seen others do it perhaps... |
