Unlike his manager, DiDi didn't quit on this game.

Is Flatherty for real congratulating the players for not giving away at bats? The yankees are in no position to just write off a game. If professional baseball were your career, would EVER give away an at-bat?.....I would not...you get maybe 5 AB's a game...maybe 20 pitches....you cannot bear down for 20 pitches a game?....the comment tells me Flatherty has taken AB's off or seen others do it perhaps... I don’t take any plays off during the work day...I do take a break here and there, but I don’t live a twenty pitches per day life. When i’m On, i’m On...I never used to be able to have an off switch even after work, with the one exception of this forum, which I would turn to when the other stuff was either done or I needed a mental release so I didn’t explode...Some times I knew that meant i’d have work even later or over the weekend, but it may have kept me alive... So no. I would never give away an at bat. I sure as hell didn’t when I played for free, nor did I take even one pitch off in the field...or one stride off when running. It pissed me off horribly to see people do that on my team. I was never an overly assertive person as a young man, but on the field everybody knew that I was no horseshit...Do your job or i’m Going to let you have it, and don’t worry about me, cause I guarantee you i’m Going all out and you’ll know it...I might not have been a great player, but I would out work anyone..,

so...we have awhile to talk while the team tries to claw back into this game....
What do you think is Cashman's feeling on Boone as a manager?

I think he’s probably okay with him as a rookie manager. Knowing the team will make the playoffs and has endured injuries I would think he realizes that the potential to do more may have been limited... The resting of players is odd, but that started when Girardi was managing, and seems to be a product of analytics more than individual preference. I believe Boone does well with the press. I haven’t had any indication that the players have an issue with him... Overall, I think Cashman will give him a passing grade of about 80. A high “C” or a low “B”. I believe he’s expected to get an A next year...

I think part of the calculus was that the Yankees had mostly a young team...and that with justification, Girardi was perceived as not great at handling young players...remember how he seemed to favor veterans over young guys?....Boone has played his young guys, but the handicaps he put his team in with the lineups must not have been part of what Cashman wanted to see...

Do you think he’s Girardi part 2? The biggest differences are that he doesn’t visibly rely on the binder, and he looks different, sonit’s Almost like we got Girardi resurfaced and he never really left. He’s managing the way corporate wants him to, just like all managers in all businesses now... essentially a puppet... or as you said it, a robot...

I think 80 is a high grade for his first year....I am more about 70...obviously he is going to be the manager again next year....and, I agree the expectation will be higher next year...

A Sonny Gray start, 5 hits, 3 double plays. Not a recipe for success no matter who is managing.

To be clear, the question you asked was what did we think Cashman thought of the job Boone did. I don’t personally give him an 80. I’m going to go easy on him and remember the injuries while also realizing that he’s hamstring by company policy with these rest days, etc. I think some of the issues where a hot bat would set the next day were pre-determined rest days that just happened to coincide with a hot day at the plate occurring the day before the planned rest. I have no clue on some of the line-up shenanigans or pitching change choices... I give him a 65, which is barely passing, write him up and tell him what I expect to change next season. I hate to let a nice guy go...but you’ve got to show me more the first couple months of next season to secure your job... That being said, Brian isn’t saying that, and I just put my job on the line by saying that. Oh 💩... Here comes Hal. I gave to go now... what’s that pink piece of paper he’s carrying. Did he forget to pay the electric bill???
