I thought his ERA on the road was 3.17, not under 3. It was 3.17, as a quick check of baseballref splits will reveal. Noetsi uses Base Two mathematics, then calculates the co-tangent of the pitcher's FIP, divided by the radius of Neptune expressed as a radical integer, making allowances for Brownian Movement, multiplied by his social security number, to reach that figure.

Just yanking your chain, Noetsi. We don't want you to change.

Noetsi is the base root of karl. It’s entirely possible the only time he’s actually awake is during the time he spends posting with us. We should be honored this is what he chooses to do with his time...I know I am... His heart is always in the right place... BTW: He hopes a Brownian Movement is not what he thinks it is...

I thought his ERA on the road was 3.17, not under 3. I had read it was 2.98 on the road but I was wrong. 3.17 would not have changed the general comments I made Still pretty good for a number 5 starter...

No no I use Full Information Maximum Likelihood specifying my own convergence criteria....I thought everyone did that...????
Not a lot of people use Brownian Movement in a sentence Pipps....maybe you can help me with learning unobserved component models (aka state space models) - as I struggle badly with them

You're a good sport Noetsi and I am glad you take the ribbing in the affectionate way it was intended. It's probably a good thing that not a lot of people use Brownian Movement in a sentence. It would be a much sadder world. And I don't think I would be of much use in helping you learn unobserved component models. In fact, I'm not of much use in helping anybody learn anything. However, I do have an abiding interest in the Islets of Langerhans. Maybe I should take that to the travel thread.

It would be interesting to find out if any of us have them on our bucket list. Although I’ve visited often, the past ten or fifteen years I haven’t enjoyed the benefits of doing so to the degree that I used to...

I am not sure I want to visit the pancreas which would be difficult in any case unless I met a really really big wolf I get lots of things wrong, most especially in baseball, so I can survive some ribbing..... As I get older I put it down to bad vision which is a good excuse.

No visit to the Islets would be complete without stopping off at Gynecomastia and Gnatheon, with the breeze whipping through your coccyx. And to think I used to believe that my eighth grade health class was a waste of time. It gets me right in the uvula.

The problem is that the Yanks play half their games at Yankee Stadium and Gray's ERA there was just a shade under 7. I think Cashman will eventually add another starter, it might not be before the season starts, but another move is coming.

I definitely expect him to add a starter before the break. Seems like that happens every year.

It happens every year because our pitchers going on the DL are as certain as the sun rising in the morning. Just like it is this year. A good reason to have another MLB capable starter waiting.

Loaisiga. Adams. German. I’d go that way. How else will our young pitchers get an opportunity? There’s talent there, and there are a couple of “sleepers” in the system that could move quickly as well. The three mentioned have a bit of experience under their belt now, too.
First call up this year, if he’s not traded may still be Cessa, but if he comes up he’ll have to be DFA’d to send him back down. But that’s at least four options we already have that can do at least as well as a junk heap addition that will weaken the staff with no possibility of making a positive long term impact.
The only way I see another pitcher coming aboard would be if we trade one of the existing top five to make room for someone better. I don’t expect that to happen...
