Sonny Grey likes Alternative Facts, apparently.
”Brooks Baseball doesn’t actually show that Gray threw many more sliders, nor that hitters performed markedly better against them.
2014: 10.75% of pitches, .140 average, .215 slugging 2015: 16.7%, .128, .250 2016: 11.2%, .177, .412 2017: 15.3%, .137, .209 2018: 15.9%, .198, .341 Based on the way Gray spoke, we would expect 2018 to show outliers across the board with his sliders, but we don’t. Hitters certainly hit for a higher average and slugged better, but it was still better than his 2016 performance when he was with the Athletics.”

Did he only throw the "s---y" slider while pitching in the Bronx?

He threw a lot of s___y pitches that weren't s___y sliders because he was a s___y pitcher last year.

Had he pitched well, I doubt the Yankees would have cared if he ever threw a slider.

Then it’s settled. Sonny Gray can now pitch the way he wants to. And he’s telling the hitters that his slider will either be in the dirt or shitty ones that they can hit. Armed with that information, Sonny Gray is going out into the world, fully intending to win the NL CYA...
I won’t be betting on him to win by they way. Unless the odds are like $10KM to 1. You know. Like a lottery...

He definitely will fare better in the NL Central than he did in the AL East but he won't be the reason for that.

He couldn’t pitch effectively at home. Full stop.

That’s why I refused to pitch for the Yankees all these years. They kept wanting me to throw my 102 MPH fastball. Every time I tried, it would only go 63 MPH... (:

I finally "get it" now Sonny. The Yankees wanted YOU to throw YOUR slider. Instead, you kept throwing Ed Whitson's slider... (:
