Like what Cashman got back for Gray, a 2nd rounder in 2018 in Stowers and a mid 30s comp pick for 2019. It could still end up being bad if Kaprelian ever turns into the stud many thought he could be, but oh well. Yanks needed a top SPer in 2017 and Gray was near the top of that list, sometimes it just doesn't work out. Nice to at least get some worthwhile assets back.
I wonder about this 2019 comp pick, could it be a move in terms of a potential FA signing that is available (Hi Bryce!) and Yanks end up forfeiting a draft pick. Idk probably overanalyzing that but I'm anxiously awaiting baseball season and it popped into my head.

I loved Kaprelian but the ship might be very close to sailing with him. He hasnt pitched in a game in 2 years and going into age 25 season with a mere 29 professional innings (none above A ball).

Not a lot of people use Brownian Movement in a sentence Pipps....maybe you can help me with learning unobserved component models (aka state space models) - as I struggle badly with them 
You're a good sport Noetsi and I am glad you take the ribbing in the affectionate way it was intended. It's probably a good thing that not a lot of people use Brownian Movement in a sentence. It would be a much sadder world. And I don't think I would be of much use in helping you learn unobserved component models. In fact, I'm not of much use in helping anybody learn anything. However, I do have an abiding interest in the Islets of Langerhans. Maybe I should take that to the travel thread. 
I wrote a short act for a play about this: (sister): Mom, Pipps is playing with his Islets of Langerhans again! (pipps): I am not, I'm doing a Brownian Movement in here! (noetsi): Since the door is closed, I suspect this to be an unobserved component. (mom): PIPPS! I told you over and over again to leave that thing alone or you'll go blind! (pipps): Aw, mom. Can't I just do it until I need glasses??? The curtain closes VERY quickly at this point...Turn on applause sign...Change set to an older Pipps, sitting in a chair, reading with glasses on...a poster of the Islets of Langerhans on the wall behind him... |

I wish Occam would make on of those male grooming tools so I could keep all six of my chest hairs the same length and look good, you know. Down there.
It reminds me of the time back in high school when there was this girl I was attracted to, so I told her she had acute triangle in the hope that I could become her numerator in monodial relationship. She seemed in agreement and when she told me she was trinomial it didn’t particularly bother me until I learned that she was also a transversal number. At that point all the beads fell off my abacus and the relationship was never consummated...

Sonny Gray says Yankees telling him to throw a 's-----' pitch led to his struggles
What led to those surprising struggles? According to Gray, the Yankees wanted him to throw a pitch he couldn’t handle well. Or, as Gray phrased it to Eno Sarris of The Athletic, a “s----y” pitch.
That “s----y” pitch was a slider, and Gray explained why the Yankees’ over-reliance on the pitch led to his downfall in New York.
“I can’t command my slider that well,” the new Reds starter admitted. “I want to throw my slider in the dirt with two strikes, and that’s about it. I don’t have that type of slider, like Tanaka’s slider. His slider, the catcher will catch it, and the batter will swing and miss. If I get a swing and miss, the catcher is blocking it in the dirt. When I try to throw sliders for a strike, I get around it and it’s just a s——- spinning pitch. I don’t know how people throw sliders for strikes that are still tight, good pitches. I’m at 2-0 and I’m throwing a slider, and either I’m throwing a s——- slider in the zone, or I’m yanking it into the dirt and it’s 3-0 and I’m screwed either way.”

From the start I did think they were re-engineering him too much and I said so at the time. That said, this is pretty spineless horeseshit to point the finger at someone else and not take accountability for your own poor performance. It makes me even happier that he's gone. |
