I hope so... But I doubt this would be the end of that...

Disappointing news. Not that I hate LeMahieu, but this makes signing Machado more unlikely.

I doubt they will sign him for 12 million for two years if they were really pursuing Machado.

Apparently this signing puts the Yankees over the tax threshold. Even if they get rid of Gray’s salary they will still be over. If that’s the case, why sign a dude like LeMahieu when you have a player, Machado who is infinitely better? Whatever, welcome to the Yankees, hope he rakes, plays good defense and leads us to something better than the WC game. We haven’t won the division since 2012.

I doubt they will sign him for 12 million for two years if they were really pursuing Machado. Does this mean no room for Machado? It certainly seems to suggest going to New York is less likely, but I wouldn't completely rule out that possibility. Money isn't an issue -- if the Steinbrenners don't want it to be an issue -- and the Yankees could roll out this lineup: CF Aaron Hicks RF Aaron Judge 3B Manny Machado LF Giancarlo Stanton SS Gleyber Torres DH Miguel Andujar C Gary Sanchez 1B Luke Voit/Greg Bird 2B DJ LeMahieu That leaves Tulowitzki and Brett Gardner on the bench, and you would have to move things around when Gregorius returns, but too many parts is OK, especially when factoring in injuries. If this still feels too crowded, maybe Andujar becomes a first baseman or trade bait. And if that lineup feels too right-handed? How about Bryce Harper coming to the Bronx instead of Machado?

As with every Rockies player, the question is how much will he hit outside the Coors Field? There is evidence of a Coors Field hangover because coming down from altitude requires an adjustment, so you can’t really take a dude’s road numbers and declare that the real him. That is overly simplistic. Here are the numbers, for what they’re worth: LeMahieu at Coors Field: .329/.386/.447 (96 wRC+) LeMahieu everywhere else: .267/.314/.367 (84 wRC+)

I’m with you, Kay, but I’m afraid the team is pretty much set except maybe another reliever. I would have loved to get either Machado or Harper. I think it was unrealistic to hope for both. I think the only way Manny comes over is if Miggy is peddled for another SP. The OF is already crowded especially if you count Clint Frazier, who despite his health issues still has tremendous upside and a gigantic chip on his shoulder. Stanton with his no trade clause isn’t going anywhere, Hicks put up the 17th highest WAR in baseball, Gardner is invaluable in the field and in the clubhouse along with CC and Judge just might be on his way to a HOF career and is the face of the Yankees. So there seems like unless Andujar is the odd man out the smoke is about to clear on the off season.

It's not like we couldn't afford it. Oh well. It is what it is.

If you believe the rumors, no one has come close to offering Machado 300 million, so maybe the Yankees could have landed him at something like 8 years @ 225 million?

LeMahieu does give the Yankees some versatility and great defense when he plays 2B, I'm not sure about his glove work at 3rd or 1st. I wish he was left handed but I understand he does hit to RF a lot.
