I do remember the Bluebonnet Bowl, along with the Poulan Weed Eater Bowl. I can't wait for this year's Idaho Potato Bowl, that's played at Boise State's Smurf Turf Stadium. Yep. The easiest field to instantly identify in all of college football. Well maybe second to LSU and its five-yard markers.

Hey Rizz, I am thinking you are exulting over LSU's plastering of Georgia. Burrow is flat-out sick. He has to win the Heisman. Eye-popping performance. He completed 28 of 38 for 349 yards and actually lowered his season stats. LSU - Ohio State should be a classic (assuming it comes to that.) Hey Pipps! Just got home - watched the game at my sister’s house. Exultant would be the appropriate description! To Tigers’ fans, Joe Burrow wrapped up the Heisman Trophy after beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Down the stretch last season, we knew he was something special; however, because he left Ohio State late, he never got the chance to work with the LSU offensive line or receivers and backs before the season started. This season, he had that opportunity and LSU implemented (finally) an offensive scheme to complement its skill position players. Burrow has looked like the best college football quarterback since the first game of this season. What an absolute pleasure to watch! He is one of a kind and has absolutely transformed the football program. His parents are great people and have been adopted by Louisiana as their own. I’ve never seen a more masterful college quarterback, and his most valuable attribute is above his shoulder pads, between his ears. Great kid!

It's starting to look like LSU, Ohio St., Clemson & Oklahoma in the playoffs. By the way, Clemson’s prize running back Travis Etienne was born and went to high school in south Louisiana, about 20 minutes northwest from where I did.

After this weekend's conference championship games, here's my top 4 playoff teams:
1. LSU 2. Ohio St 3. Clemson 4. Oklahoma
It will be interesting to see what Big Ten team gets invited to the Rose Bowl to face Oregon. Wisconsin, Penn State or Minnesota?

Every site I have seen has Penn State going to the Rose Bowl. It's not clear to me how that decision is made.

Okay, after reading several stories on this, it appears The Big Ten Rose Bowl rep will either be Penn State or Wisconsin. No mention of Minnesota.
Both teams have legitimate arguments. Apparently the one that doesn't go the Rose Bowl is ticketed for the Cotton Bowl to play Memphis. Thanks but no thanks.
That's one of those opponents which actually is pretty strong, but because they aren't a brand name, you get no credit for beating them.

For “The Granddaddy of Them All” of bowl games, Penn State is much sexier to the average fan than Minnesota, apologizes to my in-laws.

Thanks Chi. Penn State winds up in the Cotton Bowl after all. Ho-hum. But I suppose it's better than the Camping World Bowl that Notre Dame is stuck with at the same time. And the Cheez-It Bowl? Is that the modern incarnation of the mythical Toilet Bowl? If you're invited, do you have to accept? I know, if the check clears, you play.

If any of you go to the Cotton Bowl, let me know! I am a 40 minute drive from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Really, check out some of the names of these bowls and matchups. Unless you are just desperate to watch football, a lot of these games are not must see TV. I'm surprised a 10-2 Notre Dame was stuck in this unattractive gmae with Iowa State, meanwhile, Virginia is heading to the Orange Bowl. Virginia, seriously?

Just thought I’d put it out there. And, we all already know here that your peregrinations are rather more exotic than most!

I think a lot of those are mandatory conference tie-ins, Chi. And with over 40 bowl games, you are getting teams who may be the 84th-best team in the country going to a bowl. That's how we get monstrosities like the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl. I remember in my younger days trying to watch at least a little bit of each bowl game. No real reason other than to refresh my knowledge of different programs. But that was when there were maybe a dozen or so bowl games. Life is too short to try that now.

All peregrinations (and thank you for using that term) are exotic to me! I remember nearly 40 years ago some short-lived airline was offering round-trip tickets from Philly to Cleveland in January for 49 bucks. At that point neither my wife nor I had ever been to Cleveland and we were all over it for a long weekend. Cheap thrills!
