Thanks guys. Mullin has been a huge improvement. Hey Rizzuto, I'm rooting for the SEC and your LSU Tigers. Good luck! Desousa, the first Florida football coach I have a clear memory of is Ray Graves. I know he was there when Spurrier won the Heisman. And speaking of Spurrier, does that guy ever look any older? The most recent photos I've seen of him he still looks like it's 1980. I'm impressed pipps! I thought I was the only one who remembered Ray Graves. Used to watch his show every Sunday afternoon after a game. Spurrier was the QB and place kicker at the time. Loved Spurrier as a coach. He could be very funny in press conferences.

I remember Ray Graves very well. And Spurrier's running back Larry Smith when Spurrier was QB. Other SEC coaches from that era off the top of my head -- Wally Butts and Vince Dooley at Georgia, Bobby Dodd at Georgia Tech (it was SEC in those days, then independent for awhile before joining the ACC), Paul Dietzel and Charlie McClendon at LSU, Doug Dickey and Bill Battle at Tenessee, Johnny Vaught at Ole Miss, Shug Jordan at Auburn, and of course Bear at Bama. I'll bet you recall most of those guys. I love dredging up the old names. But don't ask me who was coaching at Tulane or Vanderbilt back then!!

Wow, good memory. I remember all those guys. Tommy O'Boyle was the coach at Tulane for a few seasons, but can't remember anyone from Vanderbilt in those days. I do remember them both being pretty bad. Doug Dickey played QB at Florida during the fifties before he had success as Tennessee head coach. He then succeeded Graves at Florida, and lasted for probably lasted 8-9 seasons. He was finally fired in the late seventies. One thing Dickey did do was give Spurrier is first coaching job as QB coach.

Yeah, congrats to your Gators Desousa. First 11-win season since 2012. Looks like Dan Mullen has quickly turned things around. Thanks guys. Mullin has been a huge improvement. Hey Rizzuto, I'm rooting for the SEC and your LSU Tigers. Good luck! Thanks, De! I was very impressed with Trask at quarterback this season. Glad to see the Gators throttle Virginia, too!

Consider me Diogenes and this question the proverbial lantern...
Objectively, and without concern for my obvious allegiance, which team do you believe shall win the National Championship, Clemson or LSU? And, if you have time, your rationale. Thanks!

How's that for ya, Diogenes?

Objectively, and without concern for my obvious allegiance, which team do you believe shall win the National Championship, Clemson or LSU? And, if you have time, your rationale. Thanks! You are far to optimistic to be Diogenes. That’s a job more suited to Noetsi. Besides, in modern times, if you were to hold a lantern to anyone’s face you would most certainly be sued for a variety of reasons to long to list here. You would however have the pleasure of choosing from a variety of wonderful lanterns in different shapes and sizes in addition to having your choice of a multitude of fuels that didn’t even exist in Diogenes day. Oh. LSU will win. I don’t know anything about college football, but I do wish for your happiness with the result. Besides, they do have better team colors than Clemson. Not that I know what the colors of either team are, but whatever they are, I’m sure I’ll like them better if I happen to see them. Enjoy the game! Go Lucky Satanic University! Beat the snot out of the Clemson Buffalo!!!

I would say this even if you weren't an LSU guy, but I have watched them play maybe five or six times and their offense just seems overwhelming. So many weapons for Burrow to choose from, both receiving and rushing. While the defense is not up to the level of the offense, it's certainly good enough. Lawrence will always make Clemson a threat, and they have some serious pedigree and are very well-coached, but this LSU squad just seems locked in. Clemson is due for a loss anyway. I'll go 38-28 LSU.

Thanks for the responses. I was curious to hear what others were seeing, sans obvious allegiances like mine. It’s difficult for me to gauge teams in different conferences, especially when the ACC was not necessarily strong top to bottom. Clemson is so far and away the class of their conference, as is Ohio State (to a much lesser extent, in my opinion), comparisons become murky with few, if any, common opponents.

I think either team can win. Clemson is a really good team that did not get challenged much this year so people underrate them
