New posting system in place; Otani comingJon Morosi of MLB.com confirms that Major League Baseball, Nippon Professional Baseball, and the MLB Players Association have agreed to a new posting system. The old system will be grandfathered in for this offseason and then a new set of rules will take effect next winter. That old system calls for MLB teams to pay a posting fee to NPB teams in order to acquire their players. Shohei Otani figures to command the maximum $20 million sum, though all that money will go to the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters and Otani's first MLB contract will only be worth between $300,000 to $3.53 million due to his age and MLB's international spending rules. The new system, to be instituted for the 2019-2021 offseason periods, will give NPB teams a percentage of a player's first MLB contract. Obviously the main headline here is that Otani is indeed coming to Major League Baseball in 2018 and should be posted by next weekend. Since he can't break the bank with his contract, Otani can basically pick which team he wants to play for, as long as the team is willing to pay the posting fee. I hope it's the Yanks.
Tanaka Severino Gray Otani Montgomery

If it IS the Yankees, I just hope he's the real deal...at least on the mound. Anything we get out of his bat would be a bonus as far as I'm concerned...

O is for the OH I wish we'd sign him. H is for the second letter in the OH I wish we'd sign him. T is for the THINGS that he could do. A is for how ANGRY we'll be if the Red Sox get him. N is for I wish that we knew NOW I is for I wish that we knew now again...
Put them all together they spell OHTANI...The player that means the most to us this winter...
In honor of that famous Mother's Day jingle that went something like this:
M is for the MANY things she gave me. OTHER is for the many OTHER things she gave me... Put them all together they spell MOTHER... etc...etc...etc...

How many teams would LOVE to have Sonny Gray considered to be their #4 starter? So what becomes of CC? Is it Ohtani that will decide his fate as a Yankee? At this point, I'm beginning to favor not tendering CC. At some point that knee is just going to be finished and he's going to be permanently on the sidelines...Shame, I wanted to see him come back, but then I realized that it was my heart that wanted him back and I needed to use my brain to evaluate the situation...In reality, there is a potential to have four #1 starters on that staff. Gray could still emerge as one, Tanaka could easily regain that status, Severino could still grow into the role...and Ohtani? Well...I'd say I want to wait and see...but the potential appears to be there. We could have a Cleveland Indians type of starting rotation, where everyone can be shut down...

'O-tan-i boy! The stripes, the stripes are calling' The O-tan-i boy had come into my mind as well, but I missed the boat on adding the stripes are calling. Could have also been pin stripes, pin stripes are calling... The next line really stopped me though...from glen to glen...and then I thought, what the hell does HE have to do with anything???

Re: but what about CC?
I remember the season Pettitte came out of retirement and I was all pissed off because he bumped a "prospect" from getting his shot
I was really wrong. We really needed that retread that season. Lol.

All I can contribute is that I'm sure he can succeed as a pitcher. How well, who knows. I have seen him hit for three years now and I honestly don't know how he would fare against 93-95 mph sliders or 102 mph heaters. The league adjusts to everyone ( the dude abides😎). He is unequivically worth the posting fee and 3.5 million beans.

No wonder it's gotten so many mentions here on a baseball site...
