Of course I’m disappointed. On the other hand ,I won’t miss the circus atmosphere that is sure to accompany this player. Not sure how his teammates will react to the special treatment that he is bound to receive. Since he has stated his desire to be the star of his team, it's not only the special treatment he will receive, but the special treatment he may DEMAND...This makes me suspect that he could be a "me" player, not so concerned with the welfare of the team as himself... If Ohtani ends up on the Giants, Bumgarner will put him in his place if he acts like a drama queen.

Whoever gets him could hire Nolan "Noogies" Ryan as a special one on one pitching instructor if he wasn't involved with another team...ask Robin Ventura what happens when you don't do what Nolan wants you to...

Ohtani can go suck an egg. There. Cashman can't say that. It wouldn't be proper for him to do so. But I can. To make it all the sweeter, Ohtani has no idea who I am, and will never know, so he can't get me back... (:

Okay...so now if the Yanks are going to make a splash, and we KNOW it's not Ohtani...does anyone here care to try to out-guess Brian Cashman on a potential target? I would lean toward a big splash in the starting pitcher market, which to me would mean first a free-agent, either Darvish or Arrietta, but the media is certainly not indicating that they're aware of any Yankee interest in those directions YET...but could that change with Ohtani out of the way???
If not one of those two, who might Cashman see as a good pitcher who is currently undervalued that he could nab???
I've said Robbie Ray before, but I believe the ask would be HUGE, like Judge and Cashman's Guy or Sanchez and Cashman's Guy. The Diamondbacks are contenders that won 93 games last year and will be hungry to replace the bat of J D Martinez...So given that information, I believe Robbie Ray is NOT under consideration...
Would the Tampa Rays finally part with a pitcher to build the rest of the team? Cobb and/or Archer could be had with top prospects...Problem? The Rays seem to very stubbornly hold on to the belief that they're soooo close to being in the playoffs next year...every year...

This player was a unique opportunity because of the circumstances.

This player was a unique opportunity because of the circumstances. I think that you're in tune with what the media believes, and that there is strong indication that that media may be correct. So then, any splash this winter is going to involve a trade of some of our top prospects being sent out to acquire a young player who may or may not have a heavy contract already in hand. Patrick at Scout.Com has mentioned a "Mike Trout-like" acquisition as a possibility. Well, there aren't many of those to be had, and I still think any major move to be more likely to be for a pitcher with now talent. One that is seen as young and controllable with reasonable contract that will be a free agent in a couple years perhaps...

Can’t see O joining a team that doesn’t have a chance to win. SD? Seattle? Angels? Rangers? SF?? No Cubs? Maybe, but I’m going with the Dodgers as the team O chooses to play for

I do think we have a surplus of minor league talent if there's an interest in trading for someone. But I also think they've gone through a lot of trouble to get the budget under control and still have mistakes like Ellsbury clogging the roster. I think they'll be careful not to just restart that cycle of acquiring players who will require excessively long high dollar contracts that eventually will become burdensome again.

I think Ohtani goes to the M's... I think that's why they traded to acquire international monies today..

It wasn't that long ago that people were mocking the Astros for their approach and would not have considered them to have a chance to win. Baseball is so full of irony. It also wasn't long ago that Robinson Cano left NY to put his personal stamp on the emerging Mariners who were ready to become division champs for many years to come. Cano is still an amazing player, but the team has not been all that special, save for some "moments" along the way...Yes, I think that Ohtani has that kind of confidence in himself, and it's hard to say where the line must be drawn between egotism and confidence...Love him or hate him, he''' be an interesting case study in baseball talent and human behavior...
