Way too much money for way too many years. Harper will be even more expensive.

So, now...we have a player that is so certain that ANY team would love to have him and lavish a huge sum of money on him that he's reduced the number of teams he'll play for to four. In so doing he handicaps the team that first offered and signed him to that lavish contract to a less competitive trade market for his services. He'll go to three different division winners and a team that is very likely to become the favorite to win their division next year and perhaps for many more years. So much for competitive balance, I suppose.
What if none of the four really sees him as a good fit? Could that happen? Well there have been players before him that were so disliked that most of the players at the very least didn't want to be around them. Rickey Henderson was extremely talented, but wore out his welcome in many cities. There was Dave Kingman, too. Gary Sheffield, Frank Thomas and Reggie Jackson. Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens and Jeff Kent. John Rocker, Milton Bradley, and Carl Everett. Finally, Albert Belle, Barry Bonds, and even worse than Bonds...Ty Cobb.
There were some lesser lights that were disliked or unwanted. Guys like John Rocker and Jose Guillen. So how did they make out? Well, it seems as though as long as the talent outweighed the pain, they had work. Somebody would take them on. I'll apologize in advance if anyone thinks that I'm putting Stanton in the box of "hated" players. I don't know how he's perceived as a man or a team mate. I just know that he's put himself on quite a pedestal, which is his right. In the end, either one of his four anointed teams will will offer up a slightly reduced bundle of players and Jeter and his gang will let him go a bit cheaper than they had hoped, or he'll stay and the Marlins will continue to fork over big money. Situations like this may make the next non-contending, smaller market team a bit less likely to make a similar mistake. Now, since maybe he IS a bargain...maybe the Yankees should at least take a nice, close look at a player that they'd normally be smarter to avoid. Lots of talent in that package. If no one else is bidding, he may come cheaply in regard to talent exchanged...Interesting...

Marlins were willing to eat 50 million dollars of the Stanton deal to the Giants and Cardinals. And Stanton has an opt out after 2020. Rumor has it a deal to the Yanks is progressing.

As much as I would love for this to happen... The mere fact that it's being reported makes me call bullshit. If cash acquired Stanton it would be under the radar

I would rather give Harper a 10-11 year deal which would take him to 35-36 than bring on Stanton when his contract ends at almost 40 years old.
A.) We have enough right handed power, Harper's left handed power would be a better fit for the line-up than Stanton's
B.) We don't "need" Stanton. And while we don't "need" Harper, we won't have to give up very good prospects in order to get him. Regardless of how much leverage the Yankees have here, they will have to part with very good prospects, even if those prospects aren't Torres, Florial or Sheffield.
C.) The Yankees need pitching much more right now than right handed power in the line-up. Considering Harper is on the FA board soon, I would much rather wait to make a play at signing Harper on a FA deal, and trade prospects for pitching, instead of trading away valuable prospects on a player we don't need and quite frankly doesn't really fit.

Jeter leaking to his friends in the media to light a fire under the Dodgers, imo. Great player but bad fit unless he’s been hiding the fact that he can pitch!
