Wade hitting well: bench him Florial hitting and making thing happen: send him back to AAA Allen hitting and stealing bases: replace him with Jonathan Davis Gil hasn’t given up a run: back to the minors. Voit crushing the ball: sit him for three days. This team isn’t going anywhere with this mismanagement. I realize, up until the last 4 games, that the Yankees have been winning no matter who was in the lineup. But it sure seemed to me that the team was a lot more fun to watch with Florial, Allen and Wade in the lineup, stealing bases and taking the extra base. I kinda understand the Rizzo deal. Voit had not been hitting and he was hurt. Looking back, which is easy, I would not have traded for Rizzo. No doubt Gallo is an excellent outfielder but that is a deal I didn't like when it was done and I for sure don't like it now. He is hitting .144 and is striking out in 50% of his plate appearances. He often hits behind Stanton. I am surprised Stanton would ever get a pitch to hit.

Just my opinion. Doesn't mean it is an educated opinion. I just think it takes one of our better hitters(Voit) and makes him a part time player. If Stanton holds up and can continue to play in the outfield this becomes a moot point.

If Rizzo sits, it’s a big step backward in that we begin to list to the right again on our line up. Most likely, in time Stanton in the outfield is going to cost us some runs, and most likely cost us Stanton’s continued presence in the line up, too. I believe it to be likely that Voit is back at first base next year. At 31, Rizzo is looking like he’s past his glorious prime, but can still have value because of his defense and left handed pull pop. Ironically, the best place for him to finish his career may be NY, where he can continue to hit .250 with +/- 30 HR because of the ball park. Most likely, the Yankees will low ball him and he’ll go elsewhere. If we do happen to resign Rizzo, we must expect Voit to be traded. As for who Voit is, he hasn’t had a prime yet. Injuries won’t let him. He and Rizzo don’t make good platoon partners because Rizzo hits left handers better than right handers…

So as long as Rizzo is here he def is an upgrade over Voit.

So as long as Rizzo is here he def is an upgrade over Voit. I agree. A past-his-prime Rizzo is still more valuable than Voit. His defense is a much-needed upgrade. He’s a better base-runner. His bat handling will allow him to make productive outs and move runners along. He can and will use his arm aggressively, and will position himself aggressively for bunts. He tends to remain healthy. If the stadium allows him to hit 30 or so homers while batting .250, he’ll still be a second level stud on offense. As I’ve said many times, I’d prefer to have players that offer more than one skill, and I value defense as strongly as I do offense. Looking at the total package each player brings, and being fully aware that no batter stays hot forever, I would say there is no justification for playing Voit over Rizzo. Voit is a good player in his own right, but he’s a negative defender, try as he might. He’s ponderously slow afoot. Makes only the most basic plays at first base. As a hitter, there is only one thought on his mind. He wants to hit home runs. He does that pretty well…
